I live in an apartment complex, that's not something you typically do in these situations.

I don't it's part of their job to get my items to me when they need to. It doesn't help that we have to call in a problem with our paper delivery person about every 3 weeks...when it's snowing they throw it on the sidewalk so they don't have to get out of their car for example.

I buy a gift for my mailman. We know him by name and he gets out of the truck every single time I have a delivery and walks it all the way to the door, waves at the kids and leaves it after ringing the bell. When the kids were babies he wouldn't ring the bell so as not to wake them from naps. Other mailmen we've had would just put those slips in the mailbox and I'd be trekking across town to pick things up all the time. I appreciate his extra effort, so I give him a gift.

This sounds like a setup for a porn movie.

No. Once I start getting tips for doing my daily job I may reconsider.

I've never met the postal person who delivers the regular mail. For all I know it's a different person from time to time. And as for UPS and other like delivery folk, I don't see them enough to know if it's the same person.

Besides, getting tipped is a courtesy, just as tipping is good manners. But getting tipped is not a right, and these days I can't afford to leave tips period.

I would if I got deliveries often.

I also can say I work for UPS and while we don't get gifts or tips often we do like it when it does. This past Friday one of our customers gave me a tin of butter cookies... nom nom nom they're almost gone haha. it may be our job, but let me tell ya, our job aint easy. lots of walking, sometimes packages are heavy plus we have to be quick AND safe.

you might also notice UPS at least, when they leave packages they try to leave them hidden from street view. not always possible but if you have like a pillar or something we will stick it behind the pillar so it can't be seen from the street, less chance of being stolen.

Oh come on. I give my regular hairdresser $30. I give $20 to the lady who delivers our newspaper. I give $50 to the hostess at our regular "eatery", who always gets us a good table, quick....etc. It is just a little way of saying "thank you" once a year. None of this ever turned into a porn movie.

We love our mailman. Same guy for over 10 years. When we happen to see each other, we stop and chat about the kids, and such. He is a great guy.

You seriously have never heard of a porn scene that involves a delivery man coming indoors for a special tip? Oh come on.

I don't give a "bonus" per se, but our letter carrier is a young-ish female, and every year since she's been delivering for us (I think four now) I have gotten her a gift. First year was Munsons Chocolates, then a large Yankee candle, then Bath & Body Works shower gel (large bottle), and this year I got her a B&BW lip gloss and shower gel and home made candies.

Last year when I handed her the gift she hugged me soooo tight! I left it on the mailbox this year 'cause I wasn't home.

Ya never know-it may be the only gift she gets! I consider it her reward for having to deal w my vicious dog snarling at her in the window every day.

That is quite nice of you, I'm sure you made her whole year. And it was a very thoughtful gift, to boot.

I usually leave them cookies or gift cards. My mail carrier's kids love chocolate chip and butterscotch cookies so I usually make a couple dozen for her family.
