Eden Community Gives Back: the 2nd Christmas family has been adopted! (Please help us raise Eden Points for gift shopping 11/23 – 11/28!)

Hello Eden Community,

I have adopted Eden's next Christmas Family and want to let you know a little bit about them and the local Christmas program. Christmas Caring 2010 is the program hosting families for sponsors in my area. They choose families of lower income levels and families receiving assistance from the Department of Social Services. Christmas Caring is geared mainly for the children of these families. They only require sponsors (like the Eden Community) to buy one present for every child in the given family. They are grateful for anything received and do allow the sponsors to determine what is purchased for the family members.

Our next Eden family is a large family of two adults and seven children that have been displaced... which basically means that this family is homeless…yes, really. The Department of Housing is helping them with accommodations but with such a large family placing them wasn't easy and they are living in tiny arrangements. They are expected to move into a five bedroom home next February. Until then, this large family are sharing close quarters even having the boys sleeping all together in a single twin size bed. I talked with the Mom and she is extremely thankful that the Eden Community was helping them. She's really nice and a bit sad with their circumstances but working hard and is hopeful for a better future.

The children in our new family consist of a 1yr old girl, a 2yr old girl, a 3yr old girl, a 3yr old boy, a 4yr old boy, a 6yr old boy and a 9yr old girl. Their wants are fairly basic things; baby doll stuff, build-a-bear, puzzles, blocks, books, monster trucks and the one wants a DS (that one is expensive- I’m not really sure if that is realistic but all of the children listed two choices) but honestly in general it's nothing overly outrageous. It's just the fact that there are so many of these kids. I also have their clothes sizes. Because the program doesn't cater to adults, there aren't any desires for the parents listed. The Mom said they really just want the kids to have a decent Christmas.

Christmas really is for the children. All children want to wake up with happy thrills, a Christmas tree, and a comfy home. All parents want to wake to see smiles on their children's faces knowing they are safe and happy. This family lost their comfy home, so I hope everyone will join with me in donating to these sweet kids. Together Eden can make the difference for this needy family.

I've also talked to my hubby about them and we are hoping to find bunk beds for the kids along with what the community is doing with Christmas presents. If we can find something, at least the kids can get a spot to sleep and that will be our present to the parents - one less concern and some peace of mind that the boys will be able to get a good nights rest.

I really want to thank Eden for everything they are doing to make it easy for us to help those less fortunate than ourselves. It is our caring and compassion that will change the world less

We have done it again, folks! We raised a big chunk of money in just 5 days for this awesome family!

The Eden Points drive ended last night and was successful once again – because we have a very caring community!

It came to a total of 44,756 points donated. That’s $447.56 in points, which means Eden is giving 50% of that as cash... that works out to $223.77.
This brings the grand total raised for this family (including the Eden basic funding of $150) to $373.77! YAY!!!

And we're sending the check for $373.77 to Sexy Tabby! Those SEVEN kids are going to have a very merry Christmas thanks to this community!

I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!! I bought a bunk bed tonight It's a white metal one with a double bed on the bottom and a twin on top. Also managed a living room sofa that has a pull out bed in it. Hubby will probably through a fit when he sees that on back the truck cuz it stretched our own agreed upon budget a bit but it'll be okay it's for a good cause

So I'm done the shopping for toys and clothes and what I had left over I used to make the Mom and Dad a stocking with some lil extras for them to enjoy the season. My living room is full of stuff for the family. Gonna snap some pics and start wrapping it all. Still waiting on one thing off ebay...hope it comes soon. The bed will be delivered to our house on Friday.

This turned out to be really cool - thanks to everyone again who helped this family. less

Update - we got snow yesterday so the bed might get here today, tomorrow at the latest. Our neighborhood has not been plowed and of course I live a mile off that on a gravel/dirt drive that hasn't been cleared by anything but the hubby's truck lol I'm set to deliver everything to the family on Monday unless the Mom gets called in to work. Still waiting for the one thing (mail didn't deliver yesterday) but I'll get some pics up later for everyone less

Ok, due to rescheduling furniture and working I will be making delivery tonight. Got a couple pics and a run down of everything for ya.

They were a family of nine who fell on some hard times this holiday season. This first picture shows the toys wrapped up and under my tree. The second shows some of the toys under the tree before it was all wrapped.

The children all got one complete outfit, the toy requested on their wish list and then some.

lol Daddy picked it out with the kids so it's a lil smaller then I like but yeah it leaves a lot of room to fill up

I delivered everything tonight. We hid everything into the Dad's work truck so that they could bring it in after all the kids went to bed. Those kids were all over the windows peeking out at us it was really cute. Oh my gosh seven kids can make a lot of noise! The family sends big hugs and lots of thank yous. They said they would send me a picture from Christmas morning so if I get it I'll be sure to add it to the thread.
