do you buy your books, read at the book store or library?

library, buy or read at the book store? I hate that the costs of books are so high especially since a lot of publishers release books in hardcover first which is like $20+

I get a lot of books from the library. Also, sometimes you can get free books online. Those are nice because they don't get damaged.

I just discovered abebooks.com. It's a lot cheaper than other internet bookstores I've tried (Amazon, Chapters, Alibris...), mostly because they have pretty reasonable shipping charges to Canada ($6 or $7 a lot of the time, as opposed to $10 or $15).

I read books from the library a lot, but rack up late charges like nobody's business. That's partly because sometimes I don't want to give them back. If I reeeeally like a book that I get from the library, I'll usually buy it.

Buy at the bookstore (used bookstores are very awesome) and I checkout at the library. The books my ex and I accumulated during our marriage comprise about 2/3's of our stuff in storage.

I buy. Takes me forever to read a book because I dont have time or I am too tired.

I read a lot, and get most of my books from the library. There's no way I could afford to buy all the books I read.

I buy. Either at new bookstores, used bookstores, library sales, or yard sales. I can't borrow books from libraries or even from friends because I get very attached to them and never want to give them back

A mixture of buying used books on Amazon, especially good for textbooks, borrowing them them from a library, sometimes buying new book on ereader if they are cheap and borrowing them.

Since I can't seem to find enough time to really sit down and read, I can't really justify spending full price on most books, so I like getting them from the used bookstores. That way if it sits forever, I don't feel quite as bad about it.

I almost always buy my books. Sometimes I buy them used, but I usually purchase them new. Which is ridiculously expensive since I go through at least 6 a week. x.x

I do all of the above, and also pick up my books from a secondhand store when I can.

As a college student, I buy alot of books. Sometimes on the rare occasion I will go to the library, though.

If it's not an ebook, then it HAS to be new. I can't read secondhand books!

I've started to do the library thing. I went through a phase where I was buying a lot of books, and then was like, "I am wasting SO much money on this..."

All of the above. I also download ebooks. Books are my crack, seriously.

All of the above, plus e-books (great for public-domain works, love Google Books and similar projects) and borrow.

I buy them new if I can't wait to read them, or it they're something special or hard to obtain. Otherwise, I go to our local library sale and buy bags of them. That's usually how I stock my library - I am an expert at packing books into paper grocery bags

I buy. There's a used book store near me, Half Price Books, that's pretty awesome.

I check out some from the library if I want to try an author that I have never read before or if I don't want to spend the money on to own (hardcovers are expensive).

I buy some from Amazon, some from local used bookstores (Half Price Books & Frugal Muse), and some from Borders. Most of the ones I buy are part of a series that I own/collect.

I have also borrowed/traded with friends & family.

"Books are my crack." I love this. Its so true for me too. Never am I happier than when I'm surrounded by books.

I read a story once about a man with huge library fines. When he was pulled over his car was fully packed with books, leaving himself just enough room to sit in the drivers seat and drive. I thought - a man after my own heart. Not really, but I do have a LOT of books. The last time we moved, half of our boxes said 'books' on the outside.

I get some from the library, but mostly from library book sales and loaning to and from friends.

I should go to the library but I usually buy. I like being able to take my time. I also try to pass them along to others and gladly accept from friends and family. I have a degree in English so to say I like to read is a major understatement.

I prefer the library, not only is it free and I get to take it home, but there is one a few minutes from my house, vs the bookstore which is nearly an hour away. Though I will buy if I really like the book and will read it again.

I usually buy at a used bookstore or online. I almost never buy a new book, even if I buy online, I usually buy used from Amazon. The library in my home town is pretty small, so I find that it is worth spending a few dollars rather than wait on a wait list.

Of the three, I use the library most often. Right now I'm fighting an ugly fine, though, so that is on hold for a little while. I'm working on getting a kindle, though.

I usually buy books once they're in paperback. I also buy books for my e-reader. I'm kind of a book whore.

All of them! I reread books all the time, so I'll often get books out of the library, then buy them if I like them. I also impulse buy books all the time.
