TV Tropes is "a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction.

Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés. The word clichéd means "stereotyped and trite." In other words, dull and uninteresting. We are not looking for dull and uninteresting entries. We are here to recognize tropes and play with them, not to make fun of them."

For people who aren't on TV Tropes, here's a bit of lingo for you.

Troper = TV Tropes user
"TV Tropes Ruined My Life!" = Affectionate cry of many tropers. It's a joke.
Trope = Those things the wiki is about
YKTTW = New Trope Workshop. Very popular.
Natter = useless, off-topic conversation

Normal wiki lingo generally applies as well.

I used to go on there a lot, but not much anymore. I don't really have a favorite trope, but I do like the youtube readings of awful things people posted in Troper Tales. They're definitely worth checking out!

I read the articles and get sucked into it at the least convenient times, but I'm not a troper. I don't have a favorite trope per se, though the This Troper YouTube readings of the Fetish Fuel sections are hilarious.

i love tv tropes, especially ones that help with character development.
