Do you think movie tickets are over priced?

The prices are horrible! I'd rather download and watch at home.

I work at a theater and even I find the ticket prices crazy.

I never go to the movies because tickets are so much. Back in my hometown, when I left in 2009, movie tickets were $12.50 for a regular showing. I'm assuming they're much more now. I think movie tickets are between $10-$12 where I live now. I've only been to our local theater twice, just to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 1 and 2.

Prices for movie tickets are horrible! I only go if the previews looked amazing or if it's a sequel to something I loved

YES! It's ridiculous. Because the price is so high I only see movies that I absolutely can't wait for, though lately I have been passing up even those (The Hobbit...sob...so expensive).

There are movies I'd like to see, maybe not a 'sure' thing, but because the prices are outlandish, I only go once a while. If they lowered them, I'd go more...

Tickets are definitely overpriced but not as overpriced as the concession stand. The concession stand is highway robbery. $10.50 for a movie ticket. $5 for a small bottled water in my city. Luckily we have a $1.99 theater so we wait til it hits that before we go.

I wish we had a dollar theater here

Absolutely. I'm lucky to live right down the street from a theater with reasonable prices, but there are a few others in the area that are just ridiculous.

I worked at a movie theater for over a year and I thought they were very over-priced even though our tickets were some of the cheapest ones in the area.

What's sad is that most movie theaters don't get a big percentage of ... more
Exactly. Most of the ticket cost goes straight to the company producing the movie. The theater sees maybe 3-5% from what I've been told. The concessions are the things that pay the bills/pay the employees/pay for the utilities and upkeep of the place. And rent on that sort of building can't be cheap either, especially if it's a standalone.

I'll usually only go every once in awhile, if it's a movie I think would benefit from the immersion of a big screens/sound system, like a horror movie. (Good effects, high budget, visuals are amazing, costume looks good, that sort of thing.) Stuff like romance and 'everyday' style I'll wait to rent. That sorta movie doesn't lose anything by being seen at home on a smaller screen.

I prefer to watch movies at home where I can control the environment, sound system and pause button. The snacks are better also.

This is very true. I got my own popcorn maker for Christmas and I greatly enjoy making it at home

Around here we pay 9.25 at regular price, 6$ for early bird specials and 2.50 for the cheap movie theatres(which don't have movies till they've been out for about 6 monthes after they come out) I don't mind paying 6$ but I am not paying 10 bucks to see a movie. And they definitely overprice the drinks and popcorn in big movie theatres. I paid 20 bucks for a soda and large popcorn.

Yes, but that's because the amount of special effects in movies goes up ->price goes up. Real problem is people keep substituting CGI for plot

Yea and no. Sometimes it just depends on the area and the theater themselves.
But at the same time they have to afford to keep running.

We usually only go to the movies for special occasions so the price doesn't bother me much. I won't complain if they decide to lower prices though
