Ebooks or paper books?

Contributor: Tangles Tangles
Which do you prefer? I've thought about getting an e-reader but I tend to buy used books pretty cheap so I wasn't sure if it would be worth it.

I like the feeling of having a paper copy in my hand, but I been reading ebooks on my phone.

There is something about paper books that excite me far beyond what an ebook ever could.

haven't tried ebooks yet. Don't know if I want too.

I am a big paper book reader.

I was just given a used iPad 1, so I will give e-books a chance.

Among other things, I tend to buy used books over new, so it makes sense from a monetary standpoint to stick with actual books.

The technology for E-books isn't where I need it to be yet. I'm waiting for a super intuitive, super easy tablet reader that lets me annotate whatever I'm reading 1) with a stylus and 2) without having to click through a menu to open annotation options. Basically, annotating an e-book needs to be just like annotating a paper book.

Until then, I'm all about the paper books. I'm a bit of a bibliophile in the true sense--I'm a geek about binding, paper, typeset, etc--and I have a massive personal library, so paper books will probably always have a place in my reading repertoire.

I prefer paper books but I have a good amount of e-book due to them being cheaper or the paper version being hard to find.

Paper books definitely, E-books kind of give me headaches after a while.

Paper books for sure! There's something about the smell and feel of a book, and the crinkle of the pages as you turn them . . .

I can't be certain, because I've never used one, but I'm pretty sure some ebook readers do provide such annotation abilities.

I love holding a paper book, and I belong to bookswaps so I can get a new one for the price of shipping one I already read so it's a great deal.

e readers are really cool. it depends on how much reading you do and where you may spend your time reading. it'd go for a combination of the two as not everything you want is on an e reader, but there are a ton of public domain books that are old enough to be impossible to find but free on an e reader.

I have a kindle, so I have a ton at my finger tips right now. But I love the feel of a real paper book between my fingers and the smell. So I do buy them when I can afford to get the real thing.

I used to love paper books and never thought I would be converted until I got a kindle. It is so amazing to have all your favorite books at your fingertips on a light device. Now I am selling my library.

i perfer holding a BOOK in my hand, not a e-reader. an e-reader to me takes away the idea of a book, wonder if im the only one that feels that way.

There's nothing like holding an actual book in your hands.
I have an e-reader and I just never use it. Give me the real deal!

I love paper books. Something about the feel of the book in my hands makes reading more enjoyable. I do like the idea of ebooks though.

I prefer paper -- but I do literally have thousands. We had a room shelved wall to wall for our library. And we need a bigger room. So paper does have its downside. But I could never give up my book collection. I keep only books I'll reread or reference; ones I dislike or won't crack open again get sold back to Powell's (local huge bookstore) -- to buy more books!

I do, however, have an e-reader on my phone, and am considering getting a Nook as well. It's not that it would replace paper books, but it'd make it so much easier to take a bunch of books with me on trips (I read quickly so I can go through two or three books on a vacation). Or on the bus. In addition, most classic books are free in e-book format. Right now I read them on my phone. A slightly bigger screen would be nice.
