Star Wars Episodes 7-9 and beyond...

Contributor: neil i. neil i.
So, today Disney acquired LucasArts for $4.05 billion dollars, and they now own the rights to the Star Wars universe. One of the first things they did was announce plans for producing at least 3 new movies, starting with Episode VII.

What do you think about the prospect of these new Star Wars films?

I think it's great. Disney is the perfect home for it. What they've done with Pixar and Marvel show they can make good films.
I just hope that the new Star Wars films are part of that universe but with a new story and not just carrying on from episodes 1-6.

I don't think Disney can mess up the series any worse than Lucas did. I'm trying to be open-minded. Maybe they'll hire writers that care about the series and do the next ones justice...I guess it could depend on what the new ones are about, too...if they follow the books or if it'll be something totally new.

It's just the same tired old ideas with new special effects. Ho hum...

Well, considering that they have access to talented writers and directors, and a lot of both... I think they could do an amazing job, or they could beat the dead horse even harder. I'd be very happy if they brought Timothy Zahn in on the project, though.

I am cautiously optimistic. The prequels weren't great by any stretch. Lucas had originally envisioned this as a 9 part series and he's contributing some story ideas. I think where it went wrong last time was Lucas directed and wrote the entire script, bringing in fresh ideas and directors will help immensely I think.

I can't believe Lucas would be willing to sell Star Wars, it's practically the only thing he has going for him, his whole life is wrapped up in that franchise.

Personally I've never been a great fan of the post RotJ expanded universe stuff, aside from a few decent video games, so I'm not looking forward to their being more films. It just seems unnecessary and will probably mess up the canon.

I'd far rather Disney made some decent Indiana Jones films instead.

I have always thought that George Lucas should allow others to make movies the way he has allowed all the books and comic series that have been coming out for the last 20 years. He would approve the stuff he liked and then there could be tons of movies. Timothy Zahns 'Heir to the Empire' trilogy would be a great place to start.

That being said, I am a huge Star Wars and Disney fan... though I am not quite sure what to expect from them together.

I heard about this. It's really up in the air at this point if hte movies will be good. I would think they would dial them down a bit a get back to the basics, something that was lacking in the last 3

I agree with you Gary, if all of the actors were younger the "Heir to the Empire" trilogy would have been awesome to see.

I'm not going to say anything mean about George Lucas. He was trying to give us a gift. I know it didn't come out too well, but he tried. I don't think he meant any harm and he did give us the old movies.

Watching Star Wars Episode 1 as a kid made me want to become a Jedi knight. I went from fighting my siblings all the time and beating up brats who were rude to me in alleys and smashing kids who stole my money's faces into the ground and throwing them off slides on the playground, to never fighting with anyone and being a nicer, better person.

My siblings and I became close friends over meditating together, lightsaber, agility, memory, and balance training, all day almost every day for like 3 years. Through meditation everyday, I learned to let go of my anger at my father over his alcoholism and start to recover from that a little bit. I also learned from female Jedi that I could be a strong and awesome lady, but sexy at the same time.

While we may not be doing those things so much anymore, the friendships stayed, the geekiness stayed, and I'm pretty sure a few other good things stayed as well. Star Wars changed my LIFE and I will forever be grateful to George Lucas for what he did for me.

Admittedly, watching Episode 1 now kind of makes me laugh. D: But I still love it for the nostalgia. I am afraid of what will happen now that Disney owns it, but at the same time hopeful. It's crazy to think of the fact that Leia is a Disney Princess now!
