Sex Toy Ban

Contributor: Airlia Airlia
I was reading the article in the Sex Guides and Tips section of Eden Fantasy. It's called Banning the Sale of Sex Toys by Elizabeth Black. She talked about the ban in most of the southern states.

I'm slightly worried about this because even though I think it's only for sex stores in the actual states I don't want this to affect my receiving toys in the mail. I'll be moving there shortly and I still want to review all my toys, open exciting new toys and still be apart of this sex positive community. I can't understand why people would ban something like this. ( I read another forum along the same lines posted a little while back.)

Plus I was looking forward to actually going into sex stores and perusing the various toys, asking for advice from English speaking clerks and all the rest. Argh!

Anyone have any info on this and if it affects mailing of sex toys or carrying them into these states??

Is it illegal to OWN sex toys, or just to have a sex toy shop in those states? If it's just the latter, you're fine.

Check out the local laws where you're moving. I'm in Virginia now and there are more sex shops here then when I lived further North. My sister in Tennessee is surrounded by the mall type sex shops, literally HUGE, bigger then Wal*Mart. Ask around too, even search myspace for people that live in the town you're moving to and send them a quick, polite email asking if there are toy shops- It sounds dirty but it gets the job done!

Oh, also, a lot of stores got around the legalities by claiming their toys were "novelty only".

Yeah, they call them "educational devices" and stuff like that when you try to buy them. At least that's what I learned from a documentary called Dildo Diaries. I don't think there is much to be worried about with the mail, though. Nobody is going to know, and they're definitely not actively seeking out people to punish. I do wonder if the ban is still happening in most places, though... I thought it was overturned.

It was overturned in Texas recently, right? I recall Essin Em talking about a law that was thrown out and I want to say she was talking about Texas...

Yeh that was the older post I had read. Essin Em mentioned Texas. Thanks for the advice about the myspace and checking around - definitely eases my mind
