Hello everyone! Haven't been around EF for a very long time, sorry about that. But I really need your advice, guys!

I'll be off to New York in a few days. That's my first time and I have no idea what the winter is like there. I'm torn apart between going with a regular wool coat with a few layers of cotton and wool underneath and a feather filled padded coat. I live in Siberia, so - you know - I kind of reckon it can't be worse than here :-D But I'm not used to such humidity, I really worry about strong winds too and I don't want to spend the Christmas time freezing.

So what would you recommend?

The warmest choice. I've never been, but we have a family friend who lives there, and she freezes her butt off during the winter!

You will freeze you ass off No doubt about it? Are you going to the city or upstate? I lived in New York most of my life and the winters there are hell! I lived near Buffalo and sooner or later you will learn the term "Lake Effect Snow" and those 3 words will become the worst words in the god damned english language by week two. I don't miss that shit one bit! Bundle up and remember...layers!

Me and my friend will be living somewhere in the city, the district is called Astoria if I'm not mistaken. Then - moving to Brooklyn. We'll be coming back home on the 30th though.

So a feather filled padded coat (knee-length) it is then? Won't it be too much? Cause actually that's what I normally wear here when it's -20 Celsius (must be -4 Fahrenheit).
