Anyone Else Receiving Spam in Their Inbox?

Contributor: Wicked Wahine Wicked Wahine
I have received three of the exact same PMs form this tatcher1asare (tatcher1asare) at 5:53PM, 5:58PM and 6:35PM. I copied it below. I cannot find any mention of a profile for this person, but did reply to one PM asking what the heck? I also sent a PM to Stormy, but haven't yet heard back.

------ I am wondering if anyone else has received these?

I've got it too. And yes, it is spam. It's obvious really.

There are grammar and punctuation mistakes running through it.

I think it was obvious to her that it was spam--she was just asking how it was getting through to our PM inboxes, and who else was getting them.

Thankyou, FieryRed, that is true, I have never gotten spam here before, so I wondered what was going on or if I was special!

I could not find a profile to match this "person" but have heard from others that they received it as well. I was wondering why some got it & not others. I was able to send the reply, but unable to find a profile with any variation of the names. It is odd, no? I, too, am concerned this may be a sign of a breach, possibly by a disgruntled party. Who knows. But knowing how they chose their targets would be interesting.

I'm wondering this, too.

Also, I received the same e-mail.

I got the exact same one twice, right after I deleted it the first time. I was wondering what was going on, glad to know it's not just me, but at the same time Eden seems like an odd site to get spam.

There is a gigantic difference between setting up a free account on EF to PM everyone online and retrieving credit card information.

It's the internet, half of it is spam, lol. I didn't get that spam message. Too bad because I could really use an enormous quantity of funds, hehe.

I agree.
While there were always probably spammers in the past, Ef was on top of it, being sure it never made it to users. It makes me worry about the overall security of the site and how well maintained it is, and i have to worry if my private info is really safe.

Oh, I'm worried alright! I was trying not be be seen as starting a panic or stirring the pot, so I went with a casual approach. I am glad others are letting me know they, too, received the spam. Since there's nothing I can do about it, I am trying to not worry too much. I honestly thought I was being punked at first.

Your personal information such as billing and addresses are not stored on the same server as the site itself, as is the case with all major retailers online. The information that is stored only reveals the last four digits of the credit card number, all of the gift card number, and the expiration date. Only certain administrators have access to this information and the ones that due work directly with customer orders (Ilya and Customer Service agents).

Looking through the responses and private messages send to me regarding who was sent a private message it looks like they merely hit the top contributors however in two years I've heard of this happening once before and it was simply someone with way too much time on their hands. (I didn't receive one.)

Thanks for the info! I was curious how they chose who to send to. I am glad to know there is no problem, too!

It's most likely due to all of the attention we've received via FB, Twitter and the blog-o-sphere these last few days.

That could well be. My question is, how are they able to send private messages without having an account?

It takes basic information to set up an account and I believe all they have to do is activate the messaging service and then spam away. They may at the very least have to publish a public profile. Seems like more effort than it's worth, though.
