Anyone want to help us decide what to visit in NYC?

So for our anniversary I am driving my guy and I up to NYC to visit Time Square. I've been there before, but he hasn't. We both share the same interests and like the same types of food, we are on somewhat of a budget. We are going to stores like the Nintendo store and Vampire Freaks store (we met on the VF website so we HAVE to go there!) but we aren't much for seeing historical sites or anything.

SO...

Does anyone have any suggestions for places that we can go that someone interested in one of those two places might like? We are into video games and I love anime and a lot of what people consider "kid" things like Harry Potter (and I really want to check out the Pokémon store).

Also we have NO IDEA what types of restaurants there are there!!! We aren't too picky, but he isn't a fan of steak so we want to avoid steakhouses.

I can't help you with the site seeing because I am a huge history nerd - when I go to New York I go to museums and historical sites - but I might be able to help you with the food.

I don't know how you feel about entertainment while eating, but these are the first places that came to mind when you said you like "kid" things. First, there is Jekyll and Hyde. I haven't been there in a long time, but they have entertainment that includes vampires, werewolves, a sphinx, etc. The food isn't the best you can get in New York, it's not bad - it's just not as good as other places I've been, but you might like the entertainment they provide. It's on 6th St. about a half a block South of Central Park. There is also a different Jekyll & Hyde in Greenwich Village that is supposed to be pretty much the same thing. I haven't been there so I can't speak for the quality of the food there. There is also supposed to be a similar place called Mars 2112, which obviously is supposed to be alien entertainment. It's by Times Square, but I've never been there so I can't speak to how good it is.

I have never been there. I would get a travel book. Lonely planet puts out some good ones. Have fun.
