Are you a "toy snob"?

Contributor: Dawn (Lilac Distraction) Dawn (Lilac Distraction)
Most of us are totally spoiled when it comes to toys and have a much, much, much larger collection than "the normal person".

I was thinking about it, and I'm a total toy snob. I refuse to buy anything insertable that's not made of silicone, glass, ceramic, or metal. I feel like bullets and most traditional vibrators are "beneath me". When it comes to lubes, I only want the best of the best. My BDSM gear has to be of the highest quality and I only want Aslan cuffs. I want all of my toys to have an attractive design and be functional, as well. I'm nuts, right? Is it just me?

I'm snobby when it comes to power vrooms! Everything else is not really mandetory. I'm getting to where I'm more snobby about materials. No jelly for me now. Can't seem to get past the dangers and smells. Yuck! Not really into large price tags, but getting more snobby all the time.

We have a HUGE collection of adult toys, but at this point in our lives, when we can afford it...we go for the GOOD stuff. Good reviews and prices no option. One of the FEW joys of being older!!!

I'm pretty snobby when it comes to materials and build quality. And then I complain about the prices. Hahaha!

I have a limited income when it comes to luxuries, so I want to be sure that what I'm getting is the best I can. I'd rather have one good vibrator instead of five mediocre ones.

I'm a bit of a snob. I only use safe materials, and I will only buy rechargable vibrators. I also won't buy ugly things.

I am definitely picky about materials. Having owned jelly toys in the past, I just can see myself going back to them after having used glass and silicone.

You'll never even catch me with a semi-realistic dildo. I get so creeped out by all of the gross materials out there. I only want toys I like looking at.

It's hilarious because I was having a discussion with my boss about Eden and he said "It's just full of a bunch of toys snobs and what they like doesn't apply to regular people." Haha. At first I was offended, but then I laughed at it. It's so true.

I'm definitely getting that way, yes. There are certain materials I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole (jelly, rubber, etc.) and I know I automatically won't like a toy if it doesn't have enough vrooms. I don't think I'm as hard core of a toy snob as some, but I'm definitely getting there!

This is amusing to me. I'm not versed in everything, obviously, but when I want to know what to get, I go to the snobs. If I want wine, I ask the wine snobs. If I want heirloom tomatoes, I ask the tomato snobs. If I want knives, you guessed it.

And this is the reason I am admired for my knowledge by my customers. I tell them about how crappy jelly is and how they get what they pay for with these things and I go on and on about how glass and silicone are our best materials.

My boss and I got on this topic because I told him how repulsed I was by our huge wall of jelly dildos and vac-u-lock harnesses.

Me: "Why don't we have more ring harnesses? They're so much better than vac-u-lock because all of the attachments for the vac-u-lock harnesses are huge. I mean, think of the beginner peggers! (We sell most of our harnesses to straight couples. That, and you can get silicone and nicer dildos for your ring harness. I did a poll about it on Eden and it was like 99 to 1 in favor of the ring harnesses."
Boss: "People on Eden don't apply to real life. They're toy snobs and their opinions have nothing to do with the way the general public feels:

I can completely understand what you mean. While our collection is by no means only "snobby" items, I often find myself only wanting to get the best of the best. I'm definitely up for trying anything, though.

I don't know that I'd say I'm a 'toy snob', just that I make responsible and body safe decisions. I'll happily try out a body safe product even if it's not esthetically appealing...but if there's one that's prettier and made of jelly I just won't bother. My personal well being is far more important.

I think I am a toy snob for the most part. I mainly like toys that are of the highest quality. I realized how much of a toy snob I am when I went to a sex toy party and didn't really want anything to do with most of the items they had because they were not "good enough" and they were selling them at prices that were too high for the low quality designs/materials. When it comes to bullet vibes and things like that I am less of a snob, but for g-spot dildos and insertable vibrators I definitely am.

I'm definitely more likely to get silicone toys, and I refuse to use jelly, but I like plastic and glass toys just fine, and I'm not opposed to trying out some other materials. I've had some good times with traditional vibes.

I'm much more snobbish about the vroom level of a toy - I like at least three vrooms, and four is better. Plus, if a toy only has one speed, I'm a lot less likely to get it. I'm also a huge fan of waterproof vibes, and even if I want a toy REAL bad I'll hesitate for a very long time if it isn't at least splashproof.

I tend to be pretty snobby in general when it comes to things I like to collect. For example, I have stretched ears and refuse to wear any acrylic/plastic and non implant-grade metals, most of my plugs range in price anywhere from $40 to $200 per pair. I'm relatively new to toys, and am already getting pretty snobby, I want the best, and if it doesn't have 4 or 5 vrooms, then it had better look really awesome to be in my wishlist.

With vibes, I'll use lower quality materials for a bigger "vroom" but for anything insertable, it has to be high-quality, and body safe. BDSM gear is either custom made for me or extremely high quality, except the pervertables, but even they're hand-picked.

Materials, definitely materials. And appearance. Has to be visually appealing.

Haha. I'm even a snob when it comes to color. No purple or pink for me. I'm so tired of looking at those colors. Blue, blue, black, silver, green, yellow, more blue . . . that's all I want.

This post makes me laugh. I recently was talking to a friend about a "passion party" and I told her I was not interested in attending "because they do not sell one thing I care to own; it is all overpriced crap." She laughed and told me I was the one person she thought would go with her.

I am certainly snobbish about materials and vibrations. We take our toys seriously.

I don't think that makes you snobbish. There's a difference between turning your nose up at things, just because, and turning your nose up to inferior toys. Besides, you do need your BDSM gear to be very durable, so you'd need to have ones of the highest quality!

HELL YES I'm a massive toy snob. I usually won't buy toys under a certain price tag - unless they are on sale.
I just have a strong attraction to high priced toys. Unfortunately that doesn't always mean they are grand though. Ya just have to take the risk.

I've become quite the toy snob when buying for my wife. The only problem I have is a problem in personal stupidity. My favorite material for her is silicone. The problem comes in the fact that all of our favorite lubes are also silicone. With our first couple of silicone toys we just said hell with it and used them together anyway, but when you start destroying high quality, high priced toys that should theoretically last an entire lifetime I start questioning the worth of all the degrees that hang from my wall.

I think I've become less of a toy snob? Ok, not in regards to power, but I'm not bothered by materials that much anymore... I have a giant collection of condoms if a product isn't super high-quality.
