Same. I'm not overly sensitive to germs but I do clean a lot and use hand sanitizer all the time.

I am not a germaphobe. In fact I think constantly sanitizing actually will make the immune system weaker because it is not exposed to things to make it stronger. My boyfriend is a scientist and he feels the same.

No. Constant sanitizing can leave you with cracked or irritated skin that actually invites more germs in.

I basically am.
But I wouldn't say my immune system is weakened because of it. When everyone else was catching colds and a couple of nasty bugs just recently - I never got it and I haven't been covering my face like I have in the past when out in public. I haven't had a cold, flu or any other nasty thing going around in the past 3 years. That says good immune system to me and I'm happy.
And my hands don't crack cause of washing either!

i'm definitely not. i'm a very messy person. i do have a friend, though, who carries around antiseptic wipes & lysol. he hates bathrooms & theaters. so every time he comes out of a bathroom, he has to wipe himself down & spray himself w/ lysol, which can't be healthy.

I agree on the it will weaken your immune system part. Im not a germaphobe at sll. Im a clean person yes but no where near germaphobe. It really bugs me when parents freak out everytime their kid touches something dirty, its like just let them eat dirt or whatever, theyll live. Its good in the long run to expose them to stuff so they wont get colds every month when they start school

I'm a clean freak in general, but not insanse about it. I prefer the house and things to be clean and I wash my hands all the time, but I wouldn't consider myself a geraphobe.

I used to have severely cracked skin on my hands from too many washings, but Aquaphor ointment took care of that.

I guess I'm a germaphobic, I am very careful of my surroundings. I always have a few bottles of Lysol sprays at home, to disinfect everything when a family member gets sick. I'll bring a small bottle of isopropyl alcohol with me, if I'm staying at a hotel, to clean all the bathroom fixtures. I'll wipe shopping carts with the disinfectant wipes provided by the stores. It just makes sense to be careful, after watching the documentaries about how germy those places I've mentioned are.

This - I'm with LaUr3n, practical hygiene is fine. Most of don't need to 'sanitize'. As a teacher, my wife needs to be a bit more careful with all the snot-nosed kids. Luckily I don't have that problem.

I'm not germaphobic although I do agree that overuse of hand sanitation can lead to weaker immune systems, I do use it quite a bit, because although I don't have the phobia, I have OCD and my obsession is germs/bacteria :/ the compulsion is removing them...I try really hard to avoid thinking about it, and I keep things clean that I use often (keyboard and mouse for computer, etc.) but I catch myself pulling out hand sanitizers often or washing my hands a lot!

I'm not a germophobe in MOST ways. Unless I come into contact with something completely evil, then I spend all day trying not to touch Anything and washing my hands/body repeatedly.

Not even remotely. I'm also a person who doesn't mind having food on their hands, which hubs finds to be epically admirable and weird all at once. I'm very amused at the look on his face when I cleave through a cooked chicken and plate it with my hands. *shrug*

I'm most definitely not a germaphobe. There are some things I instinctively try to avoid, but it's mostly because I don't like having things under my nails. I could probably wash my hands more often, but my thinking is that if I've been fine this far into my life, I'll probably continue to be fine. Using a ton of hand sanitizer or trying to wash my hands all the time just takes away the germs my body needs to know how to fight.
