At a nice restaurant or club does slipping the host/hostess a Jackson or a Grant really work?

Contributor: Inquisitor Inquisitor
I was reading something on Esquire and it mentioned slipping a $20 or $50 to the host/hostess to get better/faster seating. I'm really curious, does this work? I rarely carry cash and if this works, I might start carrying cash.

People that do this are pretentious assholes who need to stop showing off and need to wait their turn. Next time ass hat, make a reservation just like everyone else.

I am or have been a host/hostess and I just pocketed the money.

First, I hate to admit, depending on the day I have had at the office, I very well coulD have the reaction of option (e)!!! Ass hat is one of my favorite names when angry lol.

But, yes, I have seen it work when done discreetly.

Of course! If you slip them a Grant! I won't call that showing off if you do it discreetly (like Vnessa said).

I'm sorry, I forgot to include that if done, it would be handled discretely. Blatantly waving around a Jackson or Grant while begging for better service has never been part of the plan. It also screams "I'm more important than you" when you really aren't, if you know what I mean. Also, this would take place at a more upscale establishment and not at some place like Chili's or Applebee's.

I also forgot to thank everyone who decides to participate. I appreciate your input. If there was an option I forgot, or you don't appreciate my irreverence, let me know but discretely (i.e the private messages).

Don't worry, it never crossed my mind you're the type to wave a Jackson or Grant before handing it to the host/hostess. However, I'm sure there are morons out there who will do exactly just that!

Last weekend on a TV show, these 2 guys (think in New York) are starting a reservation system with an app. He charges to be a member. He has arrangements with certain restaurants already. It helps fill every table and diners don't have to wait. One of the guys if I remember correctly is a restaurateur or chef and the other guy a computer geek. The restaurant guy did say he preferred that over the "Slip me a Grant system"

I always just ask the server nicely if we could be seated somewhere else instead if they try to seat us somewhere unfavorable. It seems to work for me, and it's free as well.
