Stalk end, I stab just below it with my nail and use the stabbed part to open it up the usual way. I used to just pull but I wound up crushing the top of the banana if it wasn't perfectly ripe so one day I just sort of impaled the stalk with my nail and I've been doing it since.

I open at the stalk end most of the time, though i know that if you open the banana from the other end the little strips all come off. That is probably the end I should open from most. Hard habit to break

If you open it from the "bottom" it has little or no stringy pieces. Little trick I learned.

Button end cause it's easier. I used to open stalk-end but I found that apes do it from button end cause of the ease and I've never looked back.
