Do you buy "extended warranties"?

My 500 mm expensive zoom lens just took a tumble off the closet shelf onto a hardwood floor last week. The results on the lens were not pretty. Thankfully, I do have a five year extended warranty that covers "falls and spills". They are sending me a new version of the lens as we speak.
