I took a poll and the result was 63% of Americans have done this. I wanted to see if Eden matched that.

Well i did at school, so that is what I am going by, not at my most recent jobs.

I'd get fired for even being sick and calling off. So I only did it in school.

During the summer, I use to work for a catering company. On average, I was on my feet 10 hours a day. There were times I wanted to fake sick, so I didn't have to work. Untill I had food posioning from a local store, and was in bed for three days. It took about a week for my eye to get better ( I broke almost every blood valsal* in my eye from getting sick). I was so happy when I was well enough to go back to work

Usually when I call in sick to work it is because I am playing hooky and decide to do something fun for the whole day. Not all the time, but every once in a while.

For the bulk of my working career I've been self employed....being boss I don't care what I do. hehe

When hubby and I first got married, I moved and just started a new job. We ended up with a honeymoon baby...and I called in because I was tired and in shock. They wouldn't let me have the day off. I was pissed and hormonal, went into work bawling. Told the supervisor what was going on....and tried to go about my duties...

I wrote up my two week notice the following day or something. I was so hormonal, I never went back....

I've lied to get out of class... but I could get fired for doing that where I work. So I work even when I really am sick. ergh.

I have always been a big supporter and believer in "mental health days"! It's important to have a day off - when you're not laying in bed sick - and go out and play hookey! Those are the days you sneak off fishing or go shopping in another town...

Over the course of the 6 years I've been working various multiple jobs, I've called out sick between them more than 10 times. I'm counting calling out of two jobs in one day to have the whole day free as calling out twice though. I don't do it very often, but calling out of two jobs in one day every 6 months or so adds up.

I'm a big believer in mental health days, and if I need a day to be away from work to regain sanity, then that's what I need.

I have a few times, but I tend to be actually sick so much that I can't afford to miss work if I'm not. Every now and then, you just need a mental health type of day, though! And I've called in once or twice when my friend's band was playing a show and my vacation time wasn't approved for it.

I've done it a few times but only when I had something really important to do.

I called in sick one day so a friend could take me to Worlds of Fun for my birthday. It was great.

In the almost 3 years at my current job, I've done this twice. Never done it before, though. Really, I just needed to take a mental health day. I made sure to plan ahead and make sure I got things done a few days in advance each time, and that there were no patients to reschedule. I never got caught, because they figured if the only person who comes in on time every day and has never been late, always stays late and doesn't goof around and gets her work done every day consistently needed time off, it must be important lol.

Moreso for classes, but a few times. Usually only if I have something I absolutely have to do or if I'm really just not mentally up to it.

OMG...I get 12 sick days a year...took one Tuesday this week....was raining, did not get any sleep and didn't feel like getting out of bed...LOL...I figure it's part of my benefits and they are available to take, so why not?!

today he was begging me during sex to call in... so i conceded and was reaching for the phone as soon as i could get him to pull out... once he was out though he'd sing a different tune... 'be responsible' till i was begging HIM to let me call in just to have a day in bed together. unfortunately he ended up coming just as i passed the 'im gonna be late for work' mark and then he was done.

maybe someday!

I wish I could do this! I have friends who will call in sick and just take the day off, but I would feel way too guilty. I go in unless I am desperately ill, or if I'm really feeling like crap and I can work from home/have no meetings.

I think "sick" for work is generally interpreted as "you cannot come in for work today because of your personal reasons," and those reasons may be health-related or not.

I have here and there. Just one of those days you wake up and work isn't for me that day. I mostly stayed home. Which was much needed.

I once called in 'sick' and then honestly told them the next day I just didn't sleep well the night before so I wanted to get more sleep rather than work all day and be grumpy. My boss did not take that well

I've called in sick when I wasn't to probably every job I've ever had. Never got caught. Just needed a day off.

Definitely. I'm sure I've aroused suspicion, but I work at a grocery store. It's not exactly hard to replace me for a night.

I used to do this all the time, but due to the way jobs are firing people I decided it wouldn't be smart to continue that trend.
