When you make a purchase on Craiglist, do you have the seller meet you somewhere? Are you comfortable going to their house? ViseVersa...if you are selling, do you allow the buyer to come to your home?

Usually I'm comfortable going to their house because I'll communicate with them online and then call them or have them call me. I'll typically take someone with me, though, so I make sure they know that someone will be coming with me (especially by using phrases like "we will be by at 3:00" and "we are excited to get the ---")

It also depends on where they live. If I'm not comfortable with the area, I ask them to meet me somewhere that is close to them, but in my "safe zone". Living in Baltimore, there are just some places I won't go.

When someone is buying something from me, I do the same. They are allowed to bring someone with them of course but I also don't live alone, and I make sure I talk to them a bit first!

I've sold many things on craiglist. I always have someone here at my house with me when they come pick them up. I also live in a community wherebyou have to register to enter. I've met one person to purchase something ( a Wii when they first came out at xmas and were sold out everywherevfor my kids). I did what Peggi said and made sure they knew I was bringing my Dad with me.

I've sold a ton of stuff on Craiglist. Big items (large baby toys and the TWO cars I've sold), the buyer had to come here. Smaller items, I'll meet them in public.

The buyer comes to the house to pick items up if no deposit. I will deliver within x miles, or will take all the way to them with paypal prepay or deposit. When I buy something it is out of state - Road Trip!!! Basically whatever you are comfortable with and can agree upon.

My husband has had more dealing with Craigslist than I have, and he'll go meet people at their homes. The last few things I did any real dealing with we met in the parking lot of a mall somewhere between where we were. For the first car I bought off of Craigslist that wasn't too far, but the next one took me over state lines.

I have not bought anything off of craigslist but I have used freecycle before. In both cases the item was to big to be handed over at a public place. Once I just arraigned a time to pick it up and just got it off the porch without interacting with the other person. The other time I went into the person's home and picked it up. I had someone with me that time.

Let's see...in the last year and a half there have been half a dozen reports on our local news about people being robbed at gunpoint for the item they were trying to sell. One guy thought he was being smart and met the buyer at a very popular and busy gas station. He got an automatic rifle shoved in his face and then the robber called the cops and said he was the one being robbed.

So to answer your question, no I do not purchase things off of Craigslist and I would never meet anyone in person. Other areas may be fine, but I'm not chancing it around here. I'd rather spend the money in a retail store than risk my safety.

Ive picked up a lot of things and sold a few things. For the picked up items Ive met most people at their houses, if they are able to meet somewhere closer than usually a book store or something like that. Ive never had anyone come to the apartment to get anything, not that I dont trust people, it has just worked out that way.

I've read these reports, too. I am not fond of Craig's List, preferring to use the more safe EBay. My oldest daughter and her boyfriend use the List all the time, and it drives me crazy with worry. A good friend of mine uses it, and has taken her baby with her to pick up "really inexpensive used furniture" at the homes of people she knows absolutely nothing about! Both get more and more bold and less careful as they continue to use the List. It scares me nearly to death.

I'll pay a little more for my purchases and keep my identity and my life safe. I don't trust stranger enough to use Craig's List.

I will meet them. It does not matter where we meet, because i always have a gun with me. I dont like people coming to the house, because I am not always home, the wife is at home alot by herself.
