Did you drink more before you turned 21?

I drank a few times when I was between 12 and 13 but stopped from 13 until I hit 18. I live right across the river from Quebec and the age is 18 there to legally consume alcohol.

I drank a few times in Hull and then when I hit 19, I was going to clubs, raves and bars almost every night of the week.

That stopped when I got preggers with my daughter at 22.

Now I don't drink anymore because it makes me SO ill for days after, even after just one drink. It's not worth it. I do feel like I did enough of it anyway so it's not a loss for me. hehe

I most certainly got drunk more times than I could possibly count before I turned 21 - but our legal age for drinking is only 18

even then I must admit I drank b4 turning 18

I went through a phase when I was younger(before 21) where I drank all the time. Then one day, around age 18, I decided not to drink anymore. Then, shortly before I turned 21 I started drinking again, to build my tolerance up for my 21 blowout, just to be sick as a dog when I turned 21 and not able to drink or party or anything. Now, I am almost 23 and hardly ever drink. haha.

I was drinking regularly at 19, at bars even. I guess I just looked older, and hung around older coworkers who could drink legally. Boy were those fun times. Since I turned 21 I have drank maybe twice.

I drink more frequently now than I did when I was younger, but in MUCH smaller quantities.

Over here, legal drinking age is 18.
My mums reasoning was - if she allows us to drink in her presence, then we will more than likely get bored with it, plus it allowed for her to control the amount.
It worked. Bro and I had supervised drinks from the age of 17 and by 19 - 20, it was no biggie. Neither of us are big drinkers now.

I'm glad it happened that way instead of me going out with friends and getting blind drunk. All sorts can happen.
I have only ever had one hang over and boy did I learn from that exercise!!!!

If I was to ever have kids, I would do the same!

I'm so glad it worked out for you! And I'm glad your mom started at 17 rather than 12-14 like some other parents do... That just ain't right to me.

I definitely drank more depending on the people I was around, not really the age I was at.

I drink more now that I'm 22 than I did before I turned 21. I first got drunk when I was about 14, maybe a little older. Between then and my 21st birthday I only drank maybe two more times, and even then not very much. I didn't get plastered until I was 19, and I didn't drink for a year or two after that.

After I was 21, there was a time when I drank a few times a week to the point of blacking out. I was going through some pretty bad depression. I stopped because I was scared that I was doing it too much, which I was. My dad and brother were both alcoholics and I've seen what it did to them. It wasn't pretty. Now I have a drink maybe once every month or two and I'm fine with that.

I didn't have my first drink until after I turned 22, and since I missed those drinking years that it meant something to my friends (the college years, as it was), I haven't really developed much interest. Just every now and then, usually as a reward to a crappy week.
I've never smoked.

I had a few wine coolers and a few tastes of booze (my dad made jello shooters and would love to coax me into trying one. Any by that I mean he'd poor some into the lid. Then he'd watch my face pucker up and laugh) But essentially no.

Definitely drink more after 21, but still not much. "Seen it, don't want to be there" as far as alcoholism goes.

I didn't drink before 21, and I don't really like drinking now after it. It's just not my thing.

I drank more between 18-19 then I did after I turned 21. It wasn't about it being risky or anything though, I just had my daughter when I was 20..so that calmed me down.

Yeah, anything under 16 is a little on the young side for my liking. Ya start killing ya brain cells before they are even fully functionable (most teenagers are silly enough).

I think part of it comes down to a persons character too. I don't have that addictive character that gets sucked into alcohol and drugs.
I'm just hooked on food and toys.......lmao.
My bro does tend to have more of an addictive character so he does drink a little more than me but still not all that much which is good!

Another thing that stops me drinking often is cause I won't take my thyroid medication if I have alcohol that day and I DON'T like missing my medication too often. Not a fan of feeling like crap!

I've always been younger than most of my friends, so they were able to buy alcohol long before I was, and visiting them at college we would always end up drinking. I wound up drinking less after I turned 21 because I had ended up with a "real job" that required me to get up early, and adding to that the fact that my fiance was never a big partier to begin with and we got back together around then, not much drinking. However when I do get a chance to drink now, I make it count. Like, polish off a bottle of wine at a friend's place. That's usually about all I'll have, it'll take me all freaking night to do it, and on the ride home I giggle happily and stare out the window, lol

Nope. 2 beers and I'm drunk. I'm not a big drinker. Before 21 I only had a little glass of eggnog on Christmas. When I turned 21 I didn't go out to a bar and go crazy. I didn't drink at all actually. I drink more now than before I was 21.

I didn't drink until I went away to college, but yeah, I drank when I was 18. It's funny, I drink less now that I'm over 21. *eyeroll* Oh well.

I drank a lot when I was 20-22. I blame that on living in a party house with roomies, after I moved out and lived on my own, I still went to the bars, but I wouldn't drink all the time. In high school, Occasionally at parties I'd have a beer or two, but not that often!

I can remember the law changing from 18 to 21 here and it effected me legally. I always thought it was funny I definitely drank more beer before I was 21 but never really drank anything else except maybe a holiday drink that Mom allowed.

In fact on my 21st b-day I was so busy running around taking care of re-newing my license and all kinds of other stuff that I didn't eat and Hubby took me out to celebrate that night. I ate one slice of Pizza and oh my god did I drink...Rum runners and jack & cokes - if it was put in front of me I drank it. Unfortunately, no one told me not to eat the fruit with the rum runners and I was messed up fast. I puked the whole way home. Ended up with alcohol poisoning and it was really bad. Pretty much don't drink since then. In fact I went many years without drinking at all. Now every once in a while I enjoy Blackberry wine and a Mike's Hard Lemonade but that's about it and definitely in moderation. To this day the sight of Rum Runners makes me ill.

I never was a fan of drinking just to get drunk. I have to actually like the taste of what I'm drinking. When we were young, everyone was drinking the cheapest, nastiest stuff they could get their hands on...so I didn't drink much before I turned 21. I drink more now, in my thirties.

I never drank anything under age 21, and now I drink just rarely. Mostly it's been a lack of interest on my part.

I never drank underaged, never saw the appeal, never had a reason to. I took a sip of German stuff before when I turned 18 in Denmark, though, and over there 18 is the legal drinking age. I promptly spat it out and rinsed my mouth and swore up and down to never touch alcohol.

When i turned 21, I tried white russians, and I DO like those, but I really only drink once a month or so, or just around holidays/special occasions. Not much a drinker at all.
