Do you find non germane comments annoying in the forums?

I don't know if I'm just noticing it more or it's always been this way, but I'm, becoming annoyed with the comments in discussions that aren't in the least helpful. I'm wondering why people are not bothering to take into consideration the category in which they are posting.

For example, I saw a discussion in the BDSM section asking if members would buy a certain product if it were sold here. There were a bunch of the usual, one word replies, but also many stating, "I don't do THAT!" or "That's disgusting". Then why on earth are you cruising this category ?

I just saw another discussion about how many fingers people feel comfortable using for anal. Here again, there are the unhelpful responses that they don't do anal & instead only talk about vaginal fingering.

And finally, I'll give the example of discussions where a member is asking for the difference between two or more vibrating toys as to loudness, power & preference. Pointless responses will range from, "I don't have either, but the first is my favorite!" Huh? Or, "I just have the one & you should get that, it's the best!" Obviously people disregard what the original question is. This then creates a ripple effect for the rest of the comments to follow suit.

It's already clear that people do not read most of the previously posted comments before writing their own, especially if any are longer than a few sentences. Combined with this, it is really adding to the feeling that some are only out to get their points for the day & in the easiest manner possible!

Anyone else annoyed by this?

I hate comments like the first ones too, they're really judgmental. I'm shocked at how many people on a sex toy site of all places are still grossed out by things like BDSM and anal play even though there's so much accurate info here and good experiences being talked about. You'd think that would make them a little more open-minded or at least willing to let other people enjoy what they do without being insulted.

I agree!! Just because I do not participate in certain activities--there are many that do and enjoy it. It does not mean that a rude or judgmental comment is needed from those that do not enjoy the activity.

I love the diversity of this site and also have learned a lot about the various other sexual activities others engage in--maybe I will try some and maybe not, but at least I have become more knowledgeable.

It will probably always be like this for the exact reason you mentioned: It is easy points for those looking to get in, get theirs, and get out.

I just don't click into threads I don't like (unless it is someone I believe to be point farming, at which point I do tend to go in and be a smart ass). Regardless of my stance on things I try to be open minded and to contribute more than "ewwww, you guys are cootified doo-doo heads" to a thread.

Different strokes, I suppose.

I have discovered all sorts of things. Why just a few minutes ago I learned about what a donkey punch is. I may be shocked, but I like learning and sex is as infinitely interesting to me as studying my own personality! Can't get enough of EF sex ed or of personality tests

Yes, I've also noticed a goodly number of pointless posts. I also love when someone votes in a poll, then posts a comment stating only which way they voted. ... Um, didn't we already know that? At least expand upon your reason for voting as you did, please.

Yeah, non-germane comments bug me...but I'm sure my comments bug some people sometimes, too. I try to just ignore and move on...I'm not the forum police.

I do find it particularly annoying, as FieryRed said, when someone just repeats their vote (usually obviously cut/pasted from the poll option they voted for). Is it really so hard to find a topic that actually interests you, about which you actually have something useful to SAY?? It's so easy to earn the full quota of points for the day, if you have even a few minutes to spare, that it's hard for me to believe that type of comment is anything but point farming.

What I find hard is shutting up after I reach the points limit!

I don't like comments that come off as judgmental. People come here because this is a safe haven for kink and sexuality. We can't be judging others, that's no bueno.

It doesn't bother me when people comment on "this or that" product posts saying "I have this one and I like it" but I don't like when people just put one word answers. For example if the question was "Lelo Luna Balls or Tango Balls" and someone just comments "Lelo" that bothers me a bit because do they actually know or have either product or are they just saying that because they want points or it looks cool. Even people just commenting "I don't have either but the Lelo balls look prettier" doesn't bother me as much as just a one word comment.

As far as people not reading other folks comments, that doesn't really bother me. I read other's comments about 70% of the time. But what really matters is your response to the original posters answer.

I do my best to stick to threads I can contribute to, even if my answer isn't paragraphs long. But I have posted discussion trying to get information comparing toys and not had any helpful replies at all. It is annoying.

Sure, I want my points, but I still want to contribute back some as I'm earning them.

I agree with what you said.
But then again, it is a forum and even though someone may not be into what is being discussed, they still have a right to comment about why or why not or what they instead prefer (as long as it isn't hateful).

There's always going to be point farming and random answers. It's best just to scroll past like they aren't even there and you never read them

I voted Yes this is annoying!

I do agree that people should at least try to write something important if they post. This is a forum so it should be a discussion of one's opinions and thoughts. I have definitely had days where I was tired but interested enough to post a quick answer, but for the most part I try to write a little bit about what I think. It's the beauty of Eden, being able to express yourself.

I'm annoyed to a certain extent, but not by all of the examples you gave. The judgmental posts definitely tick me off.

As far as people getting off-topic either by ignoring or misunderstanding a question doesn't bother me so much. For example, someone may post a poll in the "Anal Sex" subcategory that merely says "How many fingers can you take?" I don't normally click into the individual subforums when I check in here, I look at the list at the bottom of the main forum page of most recently updated threads for all subcategories combined. I'm going to click in that thread and read the conversation and reply, and that reply might be "x for vaginal, and x for anal." Right or wrong, I may never even notice that it was originally posted under "Anal Sex."

As far as voting on which product is better, I've posted some of those polls and sometimes the silly answers can even be helpful. "I just have the one & you should get that, it's the best!" might not give an accurate comparison between the options, but it does tell me that someone who has one of the options still likes it enough to recommend it.

I do find some of the quick one-word answers annoying, but it depends on whether it's relevant to the question being asked.

Annoyed? Yes, but I think the point system change will help this issue. I try not to judge or worry about what others do here on the forums, but I do get annoyed when I think up an interesting and provocative question to only have people ignore my original question and answer their own.

The only ones that annoy me are the ones where you can tell its just a points collector cause it'll be a poll with like a yes or no and they will write "i do" or "yes" ok well you voted if you dont have anything to add then dont. Or the ones where they just write a word or two and nothing substantial, i always think well there is another 5 points for ya. I love reading all the different points of view on all the subjects and topics on here.

I wanted to say this! Why bother commenting if you are just doing say one or two words that don;t help the conversation whatsoever?

Yep, that is annoying, as well as someone taking over the whole thread so your original question is lost. If you start another one trying to get the answers, you risk being blasted for repeat posts.

This is exactly the issue that got me thinking about posting the discussion! I decided to try & throw in other examples so more people would respond.
