Kind of a tricky one to answer for me. The wife had only her mother (the rest of her family never were around or cared) and I got along just fine with her, she passed away about 5 years ago though.

With my family, I get along great with my dad but tolerate my mom. Dad has always been a great friend along with being a good parent. Mom on the other hand has only been a parent that refuses to let me lead my own life or make my own choices.

So I guess it averages out to 50/50.

It's both in a way. It was easier to be a new person with his family and build relationships from the ground up. But I also know that they don't approve of me being a different race than he is. So it's a toss up.

I have two partners, I get along nicely with the family of one of them and most of the other one's family has no clue we're together because it's likely that they'd react badly. I still definitely get along with my family best of all, though.
