Do You have a Credit Card?

Contributor: Kayla Kayla
No, silly peoples. I'm not trying to steal your information. But the boyfriend's parents are borrowing my credit card to put their hotel reservation for vacation on because they don't have a credit card, so this leads me to wonder how many people don't have a credit card. (I also just redesigned my credit card to have a kitten image on it! So cute!)

Weigh in? Reasons why you have or don't have one?

I'm a big credit card user. If I can charge it, even if it's for under a dollar, I will. I don't carry much cash anymore and I hate change.

Please be careful. If something goes south, it's your wallet and credit rating on the line.

I have both but I'm actually trying to get rid of (most of) my credit cards. It's a lot easier to spend when you don't have to fork over actual cash, so bad habits can develop.

They've already paid us for it in cash, so I'm not worried. It'll be in the boyfriend's hands, and he always has the credit card anyway.

I just have the one debit and one credit. The credit tends to get the big box purchases as they earn triple rewards.

My father gave me custody of one of his debit cards, so even though I have one it's not mine. The only thing I'd want my own debit card for is for online shopping.

Nooooooo credit cards - I never know if I'll have a job to pay for them or not. Not to mention encourages conspicuous consumption by thinking 'I'll pay it over the next few months/years/decades/e tc' when you're still charging more and more on it.

Cash here. The card skimmers have gotten insane around here to the point of it not being worth using a card to pay gasoline anymore. And it's easier not to over-spend with cash.

Speaking of change ... it's time to take mine in and convert to paper money. I should have about $30 or $40 worth of it by now.

I like to charge things on the credit side of my debit card, don't like punching in my PIN in case of security breach.

Me too - I get cash back and other bonuses from my card, so I try to use it for everything from small purchases to big to maximize my benefits. I hardly ever have cash.

I have many credit cards. Its nice to have them for everything plus you build your credit and eventually you have enough credit to build your dreams.

I rarely carry cash, and I have 3 cards that I pay off that have decent benefits. I've never had a debit card, and have no idea how to use an ATM

I travel so credit cards are mandatory. I have my primary card and 2 back-ups. I rarely use a debit card - but I do have one.

Soon, smart phones may become the most common method of payment.

I use cash for mom-and-pop stores so they don't have to pay a transaction fee. I also carry cash for random things like street food vendors and taxis. I'll use plastic in any corporate store, especially if I get cash back or bonus points or some other perk.

I can't imagine being an adult and not using credit cards responsibly in order to build up a decent credit rating. Besides, they're pretty much needed for hotels and car rentals and travel emergencies.

I'm working on getting my first personal credit card. I need to sort out my credit report, first, though. I have a card linked to my parents' credit account and their credit shows on my report, making it hard to get a beginner-level card . I plan to use a credit card like a debit card, though, and just keep track of how much of the money in my account is reserved.

We rarely use cash. We use credit cards for most purchases. It makes it so much easier to track spending, plus we earn a pile of rewards and rebates using them.

I generally use my debit card for everyday purchases and my credit cards are for gas and the other is for emergencies.

I use my credit cards like debit cards. I only purchase things that I can currently afford with cash, but using the card builds up credit for future loans if I need them.

I have a couple of credit cards and my bank's debit card. The credit cards are from a couple of clothing stores, so I don't use them very much. Whenever I get promotions in the mail, it is usually required that I make my purchase with my credit card to get discounts, so I just buy my clothes with the cards whenever I shop. I usually try to spend only how much I can afford to if I were to buy with my debit card, then I will pay off most or all of the balance within a few days of my purchase. I never carry cash, so other than clothes shopping, I use my debit card for all purchases.

4 credit cards (but one is just a Sears card) and a debit card. Plus a credit card for my employer (with a crazy limit of $20,000 or so) but that's just for work stuff.

I pay off my credit cards every month.. I don't think I've carried a balance in six or seven years.

I use cash whenever I'm paying for something under $10, especially at any store that's not a big chain. Credit card fees for small transactions can really screw over small merchants.

I am converting myself over to cash only except for online purchases. It is so much easier to see how much you have and prioritize what you spend it on.

I had credit card issues and only use a debit card now. I don't have any credit cards now, easier that way.

I try to carry some cash, just in case, usually dollar coins.

I have 2 credit cards; the one I got when I was 18 that I was advised not to close since that was the start of my personal credit history, and the one that I use regularly. We had problems with the balance for a while because we kept having emergencies come up and no cash so on the card things would go. The credit card will be paid off entirely in 2 weeks, and then we'll be able to save some serious money for a house. I only use my debit card when I absolutely have to. My bank has just decided that accounts will now be charged with the lack of a direct deposit over $500 or without using the debit card 5 times a month. So since ATM transactions count and my husband deposits my check for me once a week, I don't have a problem meeting that quota. I'd rather use the credit card like a debit card because I get points for purchases I'm making anyway and if the number ever gets stolen it's not my bank account that's getting messed with.

I'm horrible about carrying cash. I either forget I have it and use the card anyway, or I spend it all right away.

I have a few credit cards, and I use them 99% of the time. I also don't like to use cash. I have a debit card, but the only time I use that anymore is when I go to the ATM.
