Do you need noise to sleep?

I don't need any noise to fall asleep.

the sound of my fan is fine, i need a very quiet sort of hum. but other noises piss me off. i hate it when my room mate starts doing shit in the middle of the night that constantly wakes me up.

I used to use a fan, until it started causing me problems - I would wake up and gag on my dehydrated uvula. Not fun.

So... I got a white noise machine and used it for a while - and that worked great.

Now, my aquarium's bubble/pump noises is all I need (it's by the foot of my bed, and I've been sleeping with my head at the foot of my bed, anyway) unless things in the rest of the house get noisy - in which case I put the noise machine back on.

I actually can't sleep if there's any noise whatsoever. My girlfriends dog licks his paws and it drives me up the wall. I can't sleep in the same room.

I need either absolute silence, or usually "white noise" is ok (like the heater or A/C)

It depends, i like bubbling noises such as a fish tank. I also like cold breeze hitting my face, especially during the warmer months. Usually a fan or an open window, that sounds strange but it's soothing for me.

Some times yes I need sound, but not movies or music. I like to sleep when listening to debates on TV or news.

I need a fan or some type of white noise, but I can't sleep with music or a TV on.

Alan & I both need noise to sleep, but different kinds. He needs the sound of a fan running or some other steady noise, but to me it's too constant and winds up having the same effect as silence: My mind tunes it out and I lay awake thinking about things. I have to have some sort of variable noise to keep my mind interested until I doze off, which Alan *can't* fall asleep to. So he gets his fan noise and I use my MP3 player and earbuds to listen to either nature sounds (ocean waves, etc.) or an audio book that I've heard dozens of times before.

I used to, I grew up near the airport. So it could get loud some nights. So when I moved away, I needed some kind of noise to help sleep. Now I have to have it quite.

I'd love to fall asleep to sounds/music, but I have to wear ear plugs to sleep because I'm an extremely light sleeper, so I can't and don't.

It depends. Most nights I need at least my fan. There are the nights that I fall asleep in front of the TV but that is generally not the plan when I first curl up on the couch. On a rare occasion I want silence.

Don't need noise to sleep. I seem to sleep better when there's something in the background though.

I actually need total silence to sleep. If there's any noise going on, I just zone in on it.

I can fall asleep anywhere with any level of noise. I've even fallen asleep on a school bus full of excited 6th graders!

It depends. There are times when I cannot sleep without the TV on -- but then, like last night, there are times when I have to turn the TV off in order to get a good nights sleep.

I have tons of noise around here, and I need it to fall asleep peacefully.

Two water filters for two separate aquariums (they do a waterfall sound) and I usually have the computer playing a movie beside me, then there's a heater in winter or a fan in summer.

I don't need sound to sleep, but it can help sometimes. I have a few albums that I listen to if I need help drifting off - A Night at the Opera and Innuendo by Queen, and Submarine by Alex Turner are some of them.
