Do you shop at Goodwill?

I like to go just to look around at furniture, dishes as well as ideas for my art. It's a good way to buy something cheap to paint or alter. Just last week I found a birdhouse I'm going to decorate.

I voted that I shop for everything and certain things there. You might wonder how that works, so I will explain

I am somewhat of a cheapskate when it comes to shopping for clothes so I will occasionally browse the racks for something. It is tough to find things sometimes.

When I get in there I am open to whatever strikes my fancy, but I rarely buy toys and things from there because I am weird about where my kid's toys come from. I realize that all kinds of people donate, but I prefer to get him new things whenever I can.

I also don't care for shoes or lingerie that are secondhand...

But like I said clothes wise I will shop for anything, any style, for either of us.

I also won't wear shoes or lingerie or swimwear that is second hand. I'm also wary of appliances. But if I were to find something brand new, I wouldn't be opposed.

I just went to Goodwill this weekend and got a Samsonite hard-shell suitcase for my derby gear, two pairs of jeans, a shrug, dress pants and shirt for Mr, and a jacket for Mr for a whopping total of $32. The jeans being the most pricey items for $5.89/each. Who WINS? I DO!! (The suitcase was $4.99 and it rolls! Hard-shell suitcases are very pricey retail... I've yet to find one under $75. Plus since it was only $5 and it's for my derby gear, I have no problem decorating it with stickers and stuff!)

I shop at Goodwill sometimes. I've gotten a few great deals at them.

I shop at thrift stores but HATE HATE HATE goodwill. They are so beyond over priced and I think they defeat the purpose of what a thrift store is. Goodwill will charge 3 to 6 bucks for a shirt that another thrift store will charge 15 cents. For the exact shirt.

Possibly, but given their work in the community and the fact that they're there to also help people find jobs, cars, etc... a couple of bucks is worth what they provide community-wise.

Kitchen stuff, lamps, jeans for my partner- yeah, I'll get most anything there.

The exception is things like lotion, etc. I have too many allergies.

I buy all of my clothes and most of my furniture there, but never underwear, blankets, or bathing suits! Ew!

But 80 percent of the time I cant afford that extra couple bucks. I eat at the 99 cent store most days.

I think it depends on your area some too. Here, a normal thrift store will charge 5 bucks for that shirt, so it's not much difference.

$1.00 store groceries are rip offs. Most of the items you can get there you can get for cheaper at the supermarket. Meal planning is the most effective way to eat on a budget. I can make Spaghetti for $3-4 a pot and it feeds my family of four for dinner and myself and my husband for lunch the next day. So, six meals for $4... that's less than $1 per meal. You can freeze it and it won't go bad.

Hit me up in PM if you want some other ideas on how to eat well on a budget!

If I dig, I can usually find something worth buying, but I generally don't buy my clothes there. I shop clearance sales! I do, however, get clothes for my sister's kids at thrift shops. The kids are generally harder on clothes than I am and they grow out of them quickly as well. It doesn't hurt that she has 4 boys, so depending on how quickly they move to the next size, a lot of the articles go through 2-3 kids before it is totally worn out!

I don't shop at thrift stores at all. I'm not comfortable using second hand stuff, since I don't know who used to own it. My crazy imagination also keeps me away from buying other people's furniture, what if there's a spirit still attached to it? My husband on the other hand, will walk in and glance at the locked glass counters, hoping there might be an old camera that draws his interest.

I <3 thrift stores! Getting a great deal on something gives me a natural high lol... But I put in the poll that I don't buy certain things at thrift stores and that is things like bathing suits, underwear, etc.

Goodwill, Savers, and other thrift stores are basically the best thing ever. Especially if you're on a budget or looking for unique things. I have a friend who found several pairs of Tripp pants (usually quite expensive) at one once. While it's easiest to find good things in Medium sizes, there's usually something for anyone.

Thrift stores are also a godsend if you're in an acting/drama group with no budget where you have to supply your own costumes.

YES!!! I go to garage sales too. Socks and underwear I will totally buy new. Bra's I will get at classier consignment shops but normal clothes, accessories and house wears hell yes. I make money but I spend it like I dont have much. It's just smart.

Go for it! I check Goodwill out when I can. When I was younger, I shopped there all the time. But that was when they were cheaper and most pieces were individually priced and such. Now, some things are quiet expensive there which makes my wallet sad.

Yes, but not that often. If I needed dishes/furnishings, definitely. And I tend not to need too many casual clothes, but I've found some neat accessories at Goodwill.

I also live in an area with other neat secondhand stores. I like cheap, sometimes-unusual things to go with my sometimes-boring-norma l clothes.

I used to but there prices are absurd on most things. I'm much more likely to shop Salvation Army because I still think they do what they intended, Goodwill I think has seriously lost it.
