EEEK! The Landlord is coming!!!

Contributor: Tori Rebel Tori Rebel
So I just got an e-mail from my landlord - he needs to do a quick walkthrough of my place this afternoon for a state lead paint inspection. He's a great landlord and I have no problem letting him in...BUT there are easily a dozen sex toys out in my bedroom and bathroom right now including Gigi, Mimi (has anyone else tried those two together....wow), my accuvibe, the wahl, Dolly dolphin, the cyberglass perfect p-spot, the cyberglass pure p-spot wand, a giant cone shaped silicone plug from Hustler, my orchid G, and a few others.

I'm trying to get my boyfriend to swing by this afternoon to clean up, but I haven't gotten a hold of him yet and I may be able to sneak out of work a few minutes early to clean up, but there's no guarantee on that.

Now, I realize that they're not at all illegal and there's nothing at all my landlord can (or would) do anyway, but it's still something of a predicament.

Anyone else have something like this happen? Even if he goes in and notices the toys, I'm sure it's something I'll be laughing about in a week but I'm a bit panicked now!

There were a few things I had accidentally left out in our bedroom when I went on vacation with my husband last year. Well, I forgot to shut the window over the bed, and my sister (we live with my mom) had come in to shut the windows because it was starting to rain pretty bad. And when I got back, the first thing she said to me was something to the effect of "nice vibrators, lol."

Let that flag fly! That'll teach him to pop in on short notice when it's not an emergency. Hehehe.

That's the only thing I've ever hated about landlords or renting in general, you just never know when they'll stop by. Of course, I'm unnaturally private and secretive when it comes to actual human beings in close proximity knowing what I'm up to these days. I still don't think my sister or my mother has even the foggiest clue about how sexual I really am.

LOL. He's actually a *great* landlord - I couldn't ask for better. And he does always give notice, he just doesn't seem to be given much notice sometimes. NJ does a lot of inspections on rental buildings and while the major bi-annual one has lots of notice, he sometimes doesn't have more than a day or so on the others. He's an ex-cop and very firmly instructs his tenants that if it looks like someone has been in your home while you were out, don't just assume it was him - call the police because unless you are in eviction and cannot be contacted or they think you might be dead, they will never go in without the tenant knowing. Honestly, if I told him outright NO today, he wouldn't go in, but it's not that major of a deal.

That seems like short notice to me, but the leases I've had so far always had a 24- hour notice requirement for landlord visits. I'm glad you have a good relationship with your landlord, though. That's always nice. I wouldn't worry about the toys as long as you trust his character, and it appears you do. He sounds like he is very professional and courteous, so I think it'll all be okay.

Eh, he probably won't even bat an eyelash then. Besides, it's your home and you should always be able to leave your things out where you want them.

We keep our collection scattered about the place so if we're gone during the day and there's an emergency or whatever, they'll see an assortment of impliments of destruction. The way I feel about it is the landlord would rather see toys everywhere than dirt and poor upkeep of their property.

Oh, I completely agree with you and Kris. It's really not the end of the world, but if it can be cleaned up in time, that would be nice

LOL, I can understand why you'd be embarrassed.

My landlady and her lazy repair guy get on my nerves so when they were giving tours of my house, without notifying me a day or two beforehand like they promised, I made a point of asking them to fix all the HORRIBLE problems with my place. I was extremely tempted to leave out creepy things because they were not respecting my wishes.

I almost wish I had had overnight company and walked out bare-ass naked when they toured in the morning just to make everyone feel awkward.

No kidding! The suspense is killing me. I have been checking in off and on, all day, to see what happened. Feel like this is a soap opera. Did you get home in time? Did you ask him to drop by later? Or did he get an eye full?

The end of the story is SO disappointing. I had my boyfriend rush over once I finally tracked him down to clean up (aka throw all the cocks under the bedspread), which he did, and I rushed home from work...to get a message that the landlord had gotten tied up with a customer (at his other business) and had to cancel and will call next week to reschedule.

Sigh.

My boyfriend and I have had our own apartment for awhile and a few things have happened. Last summer we had a super hot sex session in the middle of our living room floor. It easily included a dozen or more toys. We left in a hurry and left everything out. We found out when we got back that the maintenance guys had come in to spray for bugs. Oppppsss....

Then a few months ago, the maintenance guy barged in over winter break. He thought no one was in our building. We were the only ones. We were in bed and the blow up sex doll I had for review was sitting in plain view on the couch. I yelled for him to come back, but the damage was already done.

We both thought it was hilarious. I just feel bad for the other person. I may not be uncomfortable, but the other person might be!

That is funny! It's also why I'm glad I don't live in a big complex and have maintenance guys that come by though My landlords own this 4-family house plus a few other properties and they manage everything themselves so I always have notice before they come by.

The only thing I had to hurry up and erase every trace of in my apartment was my cats. It would have cost me like $200 up front and $50 extra a month per cat just to keep them. So I just didn't tell them. Whenever maintenance had to come and fix something, I had to get the litter box, their toys, food dishes, and every little bit of fur cleaned up so that they wouldn't kick me out. This time when I get an apartment, I am definitely going to get one that will let me keep at least my one cat without too much of a raise in rent.

Have you talked to her and your mother about it? That is terribly disrespectful.
