It seems like everywhere I look, the word fetish is used to imply something hardcore/'dirty'/abnor mal or other sexual deviations. I feel somewhat offended by this, and know I should be able to overlook the usage, but am unable to 'get over it'.

To me, a fetish is an open or secret desire for, desire to and desire of an object or activity that is either sexual or non-sexual. This is not a bad word! My fetishes are lingerie, maple-nut ice cream, coffee!!,adult toys, yard sales and writing.

What does it mean to you? Do you ever feel offended, or am I just weird?

To me it's pretty much a modified dictionary definition when used in reference to sexuality: a form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked to a particular object, item of clothing, part of the body, etc.

I very rarely use the non-sexual version of the word.

I love the word fetish. It usually peaks people interest when I drop I am into fetishes.

You have hardcore fetish people who have to have the object or action to feel any kind of sexual gratification. There are some guys I know who need to play with their fetish to get any real sexual pleasure.

I love, love, love fetish play, but do not need any of the fetish stuff to get turned on or gratification.

The word fetish has become so hardcore, and if you happen to be into anything fetish related (i.e. feet, medical items, etc.) you automatically get grouped into having that fetish, which I think is wrong. I like my feet to be played with and worshipped, but I do not need it to happen.

Fetishes have become a huge part of the sex/adult world. It's ignorance that gives it a bad meaning. My feeling on the whole feeling of the use of the word fetish is if you feel comfortable to be considered as having a fetish then do it, if not explain you have a strong liking that you wouldn't consider a fetish. Its all subjective, one person's fetish is another person's kink.
