I'm a snob, I'm afraid. I couldn't stomach the writing long enough to get past page 3.

I read two of them, and I thought they were stupid, badly written, and really kind of boring..

I read a bit of it and tossed it out. I could not believe how crappy it was. Seriously. I tried and tried but man alive did that book suck. Just pure rubbish

Don't plan on reading them at all. It started out as Twilight fan fiction (which I don't like Twilight to begin with) and I have heard from many MANY people that the 50 Shades writing is absolutely horrible! Most of the time, I'd rather have a bad story that is written well, but I just can't put up with bad writing (many say that it reads like a teenager wrote it when the author is in her 40's).

I have no desire to read it. I'm a big reader, and I'm a fan of real literature...sorry if that sounds snotty, but 50 Shades of Grey is not really my kind of book. And like many have said, do not read that book thinking that it's an authority on BDSM. It's for entertainment purposes only and is a work of fiction. If you read it, I hope you enjoy it, but read about BDSM elsewhere.

I'd rather go to BDSM library for better read. The stories are better written.

I read the first one, but don't plan on reading the next two. If you read it, read it for the sex...because the non-sex plot is a rip-off of Twilight and badly written at that...I don't see how the woman doesn't sue them. Some of the sex was hot, but a lot of it was just laugh-out-loud funny to me. Like all the porn stereotypes you can think of.

i don't plan on reading them, no. they sound awful from everything i've heard, and the excerpts i've seen suggest the writing is atrocious.

I totally agree with this. From time to time I crave a romance novel with bad plot, but it has to at least be somewhat well-written. Also, I'm pretty sure the author doesn't know jack about BDSM (not that I do either, but that's why I don't write books about it). I'd rather read a BDSM story by someone who has experience, or at least did extensive research.

I read the series and it was okay. The writing was sophomoric at times, but overall I enjoyed it. It's not going to win the Pullitzer Prize, but it's also not the worst thing I've ever read.

I loved them! Well actually im in love with the idea of the story it tells in the book but I will say that the writing itself is very weak, too much like Twilight, I should know because I read the whole Twiligh saga as well, E L James is no Stephen King ill tell you that much, her writing is too repetitive, she lacks heart in storytelling but she did her best and shes rich off of the books just like Stephanie Meyer (Twilight Author) so I guess shes not so bad, I've read way better books though.

I have read excerpts, and from what I've read, it's not only bad writing but bad content. I definitely will not be reading these in full - there's much better smut on the internet.

I've also read excerpts and quotes and was completely underwhelmed and a bit disappointed, really. The quality was so subpar I couldn't even get started. That, and what I've heard about the characters and their motives and the portrayal of BDSM just made me not want to even investigate.
