It depends on my mood & if I have the money to give to them. If I feel really bad for them I'd give it to em.

It's not a situation I have come across a whole lot. I don't know if I would or not.

No I wouldn't if they are hungry I will get them food but I will not give money for them to go buy beer and drugs. Most panhandlers make WAY more then you or I do and live in fancy houses driving nice ass cars. I know that isn't ALL of them but no I won't if I can go out and get a job so can they.

Only if I feel wicked bad for them, but normally it takes a panhandeler to have a pet nearby with a sign that says NEED MONEY TO FEED DOG/CAT/WHATEVER PET.

I have but only out of a car. I definitely don't want someone robbing me as I walk down the street.

I'm the one who voted "other" (at least, the only one so far) because no, I would not give them money. I do and have, however, give them food. I used to live half a block from a grocery store in a big city, and they would sit outside. Some of them were only there for money, and would turn down your offer of food if you made one. Some of the others, though, I would chat with every time I saw them. I mean, even if I didn't have a lot of money, I could still spare enough for a sandwich and a piece of fruit every now and again. When they say no to food and ask for money only, though, I don't trust in their intentions enough to give it to them.

I think it really depends, but for the most part yes. I would if I had it.

I used too, then was told by the police that I should not under any circumstances give money to the people begging on the street. They laugh at me when I offer them food though. So my lesson was learnt!

No, I see the same ones sitting at the same corners for years straight.

Nope, I don't give money to panhandlers as a rule (and I don't really have the money to spare anyway). Giving food or volunteering at a soup kitchen are my preferred ways of helping out.

Normally on most occasions I will not, sometimes though I will make an exception and give a few small coins or a handful of pennies. Never give bills though for I struggle myself and cannot afford to be giving away money.

I've only ever given money to one panhandler but she was a woman who had two kids and a black eye on the street on Christmas Eve.

Other than that, I'll give them food for themselves or their pets.

I happen to have made the acquaintance over the years of some people who panhandle for a living--and make quite a tidy sum. My "inside information" has made me more wary of whom I give money to. If I know someone is truly in need, I will help them however I can: food, clothing, furniture, assistance with shelter, or money. If someone seems sketchy, or I see them day in and day out with no change in their circumstances, I move on.

If i had the money to spare i would, though i prefer to offer those in need food and many are usually very appreciative of the offer. Going to Food Not Bombs protest was something i enjoyed doing in high school and i know it supported a good cause and help people who may otherwise not get a warm meal have one.

It makes me uncomfortable when I'm approached by people asking for money, or even to borrow my phone.

I don't feel safe when it happens, and I'm scared they might steal my phone or grab my wallet off of me.

I have before. As a college kid, I gave both money and food to the one near our university.

I've saw a lot of professional panhandlers around my college and I don't give to them because they never came to our mission house actually wanting help. If they don't appear to be pros, then I'll gladly help out when I can.
