Has A Tramatic Childhood Incident Caused An Odd Behavior In Your Adult Life?

Contributor: js250 js250
I almost drowned when I was a small child. I remember every minute until I blacked out under water--and can still taste the lake water in my mouth and lungs to this day. My odd behavior? Well, I cannot get my face wet. I can wipe it with a damp cloth, but if water gets on my face in the shower, tub or any other time--full blown panic attack!!!

--Anyone else have an interesting behavior to share?
--Have you tried to get over it?

My mom died in a car accident when I was a kid. I can't sit in a car without a seatbelt on. Even if it is parked, if I am sitting in the car, I have to have my seatbelt on. I'm also just a very nervous driver in general. I never speed or anything like that

I have the same issue with water being on my face in the shower js250! Twice before I knew how to swim I had fallen into the water, but wasn't even close to blacking out. I don't think they're related, but it does freak me out a little.

Taylor - My husband makes fun of me all the time because I keep my seatbelt on even when the car is turned off. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your mom and think it's totally understandable why you've reacted the way you have!

I'll have to think on other things I do that are based on a traumatic event. I'm sure there are some, but nothing is coming to mind at the moment.

I am horribly afraid of needles and I remember the youngest time getting my blood drawn I was 3, I feel like they fucked it up and dug in my arm when I was a kid and that's why I hate them? I can get my blood drawn or needles in me now if I don't look at it and they just stick it in and don't tell me what they're doing. I also have really small veins. At least I will never be a heroin junkie? Lol.

I had a head injury when I was 11 that fucked up my whole life and gave me emotional problems so I ALWAYS wear a seatbelt in the car and helmets when doing sports and such.

Some of my social interaction problems stem from my teenage years.

Since adolescence I've had a problem with anxiety/depression. When I was about 20 years old I had a panic attack on an airplane and have been nervous about flying ever since. Transportation in general makes me nervous, but flying is the worst.
