I did once, when I was traveling with a colleague from China who enjoyed 'luxury' things a good deal. She and I got a nice surprise while we were on the road, and decided to eat at a fancy restaurant to celebrate. We were traveling through a town where I had some friends, so I invited a few of my local friends as well.
I was really impressed with the quality of the food, the level of service (they created two individual vegetarian dishes for two of our party, on the spot), the flavor, presentation, and the desserts. (!) It wasn't even horrifyingly expensive (we ordered ala carte, not the tasting menu), just the same as if you were paying for both your meal and your date's meal, really.
I was very impressed with everything, but I did have to roll my eyes at one point---one of my friends (dressed in black) didn't know to put her (white) napkin on her lap, so when the waiter came after the salad had arrived he told her "We have black ones, if the white napkin doesn't match." In my opinion, it hadn't been harming the other guests' experiences if my friend didn't have her napkin on her lap, and
my friend didn't even understand his hint anyway.
Other than that---delicious. I would definitely go again.
