How do you tell someone they have bad breath?

You don't want to hurt their feelings, but when it's constantly 'really bad', how do you deal with it?Do you try offering gum, mints...etc. to help? It can get to the point that you hate to even have to be around them.

I know all the medical warning signs about it & I have addressed it before in real life, but someone I was recently was around made me think about it again and I thought it would be a good topic.

I know ... More
I think that honestly is the best way to tell them.

I offer mints or gum, or something to drink when possible. There really isn't a way to tell someone they have bad breath without hurting their feelings.
Of course I try to stay out of range of someone's bad breath. In situations where it can't be avoided I'll dab lip balm or hand sanitizer under my nose so I can't smell it.

Honestly I offer some gum. If we're somewhere where it might shed them in a bad light, I'd tell them in a friendly way while offering the gum.

I wouldn't dare tell someone they have bad breath. It's just such an incredibly sensitive subject.

For what it's worth - offering someone a sugary, minty piece of candy or gum actually makes it worse because the bacteria feeds of those two things. Cinnamon or another flavor that isn't a mint-base is the way to go. (Orange is one of the best ways to knock out bad breath in close quarters.)
