I could argue either side of the whole gun debate. Personally, I do not and would not own a gun, but I'd consider getting a license to shoot one, just to know how.

I don't care either way pretty much but I do have a pellet gun.

I'm pro gun as long as the owner is responsible enough.

I don't care either way. I do think that if someone owns a gun they should be careful, responsible, and know how to use it properly. I've seen too many people get hurt or worse not because of the gun but because of the ignorant person holding it.

Oh, and my reasons for not owning a gun myself:
-I highly doubt I'd have the guts to use one if I did indeed need to protect myself
-if I did use it, I think it'd be a little messier dealing with the police than it would be if I just ran and hid or something without the bullets involved
-going through the process of buying a gun, buying bullets, and doing all the paperwork to make it legal is too much of a hassle for me
-I don't think I'd store a gun very well...

I don't own any guns and while I think people should be allowed to own one, I just can't imagine why anyone would possibly want one. I won't ever allow a gun in my home, but I wouldn't want to infringe on the rights of others just because I have a different opinion.

I'm pro for guns and an owner as well. As long as an owner is educated, responsible, and mature, then there shouldn't be a reason not to.

I don't own one and wouldn't want to. But, the right is in the Constitution. Maybe making it a little more difficult to get one would be a good idea though. In some states it's way too easy.

I have one, and I would like more. I'm pro guns, just wish it was harder (and impossible!) for criminals to get their hands on them

I own one shot gun, one rifle, one pistol and two pellet guns. All the family shoots on a regular basis. Aside from the shot gun (Turkey and home protection) the guns are used for sport.

Yes to owning. However, we are in favor of limits on them (no automatic weapons, no military style weapons, etc).

My wife and I don't own any yet, but are interested in ownership in the future. I have never shot one before, but my wife was taught at an early age how to shoot. We want to start with a shot gun for home protection.

you want a hand gun for home protection. Shot guns are too big and heavy to deal with in the dark. I would suggest a glock in 9mm, maybe with a laser in the guide rod.

Maybe, but when I cock my pump shot gun most thieves will go running. There is no mistaking the sound and I don't really need to aim.

I have never and will never own a gun!
Nor will I ever live in a country where everyone walks around with them. I value my life too much!

It was always a dream of mine to visit the US, but have to say, the thought of walking around gun happy people concerns me greatly.

Exactly the reason I want the shot gun first.

I'm for gun rights and I do own guns. I love going to the shooting range, it relieves stress for me. And they are good for self-defense. You don't need to shoot to get your point across.

I think most of the people who come by guns "easy" aren't obtaining them through legal channels, in which case all the regulation in the world isn't going to stop them. It just severely hampers those of us who do want to abide by the laws.

@ Shellz31:
I promise you, not all American gun owners are wild, trigger-happy hillbillies who distill moonshine.

I own a wide variety of guns. Some are historical artifacts from the Civil War or World War II, some are for hunting, and some are for investments. Unlike a car or a house, a gun very rarely loses any value and usually gains value if kept in good condition.

Most gun laws do not inhibit felons from aquiring guns since felons are prohibited from buying or owning guns anyway. Although a 3 day waiting period is fine, a gun safety course as part of FOID registration should screen for mental illness. This would keep a lot of guns away from the mentally unstable who would not use them lawfully. Anything beyond that is unnecessary and political posturing.
