How old is too old for a woman to have long hair?

Contributor: Alx Alx
I don't see why it *has* to be short just because you've aged. Really. Let your hair out if you want to!

I don't think this is always an age too old for a woman to have long hair.

Age isn't the issue. More of the style and condition of the hair.

Putting an age limit on long hair seems like a dated norm to me. It seems to be that long hair is associated with a sort of youthful femininity, but that's why folks keep it long, no?

There are several women at the nursing home where I am doing my clinical rotation who have long hair. I think it suits them very well, even in their 70's 80's and beyond. As long as you take care of it to look nice, I think you can have it long at any age.

Long hair looks great at any age as long as it looks natural.

I don't necessarily think there's a specific age where a woman has "out grown" having longer hair, but if it gets to the point where it's physically difficult to maintain it at a certain length I think it would make more sense to keep it shorter and easier to care for.

If that's how you like it then keep it long. I have always loved long hair over short hair.

I'm only in my 20's, but I've never even heard of the idea that older women shouldn't have long hair. How bizzare.

No age. Some women look better with short hair, some with long hair. I can't wear my hair short or it puffs up like a dandelion gone to seed. Once all my hair is white, if I tried to wear it short, I would look exactly like a walking dandelion, or possibly a poodle.

You're only too old for it when you feel it doesn't look good on you. Do whatever you please.

Never! This reminds me of a nice little story... (sorry. I know I tend to get on my story route all the time. lol)

I don't think a woman is ever too old to wear any hair! I always say a girl's never too old to wear sparkles, but she's never too old to wear her hair the way she likes. I really believe that.

I never had a haircut until I was 14! My hair hit behind my knees and at 14 I cut it around my mid-back. My great grandmother was alive until I was around 9 or 10 I believe, and she let her hair grow to the length of mine for all these years and said she'd never ever cut it until the day I did. She had passed by the time I'd cut mine, but she was in her late 70's I think and still looked fabulous with her long hair. She'd wear it in a braid like mine or up in a bun. One of my cousins still gives me a hard time about cutting it. "Granny would be so disappointed!" He says. Oh well though.

Point is, don't you worry. I'm sure you look just as beautiful with it long. I don't think anything "wrong" when I see elderly women with very long hair. Just do what "feels like you." I'm sure nobody would think you're too old for it.

I really don't think it matters. As long as it suits your facial structure and you know how to style/wear it...go for it!
