Netbooks? Love them or hate them?

Contributor: GenderSexplorations GenderSexplorations
So I've been looking into buying a netbook lately to supplement my computer so that I could take my documents and things with me wherever I go. And I was wondering if anyone on here had any opinions on the subject.
So here it is.

I hear Netbooks are amazing and I want to try one. If you get one you should get one with a dual-core AMD processor though, since they're the best. Also, Stay away from the Intel Atom processors.. They're bad.

Yeah I've heard that. I've heard good things about Intel overall, but I think they really dropped the ball with the Atom processor. They tried to make it use too little power so it runs too slow or something.

They're okay.

My friend traded hers in for a "real" laptop since the netbook was too limiting.

I would be more interested in an ultralight laptop. Even a cheap laptop if you're on a budget, they can be pretty light these days.

It really depends on your needs. Try out a netbook keyboard and the screen size, consider data storage. Consider a tablet, maybe.

I have a netbook, and it has an Intel Atom processor. This thing is awesome. I've heard negative things about the Atom processor, but that was the first generation. They've fixed them since then. I've never had a single problem with this one. I use the netbook for school and it is great because it works just like my laptop, but it's half the size and weight. It also has an 8 hour battery life. That part can't beat.

Now that the tablets are catching on, and they are in their second or third generation, I think that might be better. They are increasing in computing power, and I doubt they will be behind the netbooks for much longer in functionality. Almost all of them have built-in wireless. I may look into getting a tablet next. Once I'm done with school, I won't need the netbook.

I also use my netbook for school. I had a macbook pro, but the netbook works just as well, but is so much easier to carry around.

I know what they are but to be honest I'm not too technologically savvy!

I have a CR-48 (which are the proto-types to Chromebooks) and a Dell Mini 12. Although they're a little lacking in speed, they're good for what they're named for: The 'net. So if email and cloud-based things are 99% of what you do, then you can get by just fine on a netbook.

I used to want one, but after using my friends'.... it's so small and annoying!

i love my netbook for school. its light weight and has enough processing power for microsoft word, and surfing the web. i did manage to run excel on it, but i felt if i tried running another program it would cr@p out.

I can see the advantages of them being light, but the keyboard is so small that they're a pain for me to use.

I say spend the extra $100-$200 and get a "real" laptop or wait for ultrabooks to come. Netbooks do one thing great, surf the web. The second you want to do something else, you'll be very disappointed

They're okay for nothing too heavy, you know? Just minuscule stuff and not much else.

Yeah I think it would be really handy to have for word and maybe some internet browsing. If I want more than that, I still have my laptop.

I would look into tablets but I prefer the physical keyboard that netbooks offer.

Glad to know a different angle behind the Atom processor though!

Not something for me, I'd rather have a regular laptop, and it'd be a plus if it could play games.

Netbooks are great for school if you can get a deal on them. Like $200 is about what I'd pay for what is essentially mobile internet
