Perverted - what do you think?

Contributor: Katelyn Katelyn
Some people in the general public don't talk about sex at all but there are some who make fun of those that are sexually in touch with their bodies. I want to spark u a discussion on the word "pervert" and it's connotation.

When describing the Lelo gold plated prostate massager the author describes it. "At first blush, this is just an 18-karat-gold-plated door handle. Then you read the description, "gentleman's pleasure object," and realize it's made to go up your butthole."

...Wow, captain obvious. Aside from the annoying jokes, this article is rude and makes fun of those of us that enjoy high quality toys.

I believe it is empowering to spend hard earned cash on things that will bring me pleasure rather than jewelry or something I won't enjoy. This article irritated me more than a little and I was wondering if I was alone in this?

But to start us off lets talk about the word pervert.

I am speaking strictly sexually and personally believe that no one is genuinely perverted. Murderer's and rapist's aside is any of the legal behavior that could be considered sexually deviant perverted?

This is interesting to me because I see Eden as a place where we think about sexual identity quite often. Is deviating from the normal moral standards a perversion? Is this word outdated or is it just me?

There will always be some uptight jerk that yells to the world what (s)he thinks and how (s)he thinks (s)he is so much better for what ever reason. People rarely change.

Perverts are people that engage in acts where they don't care about consent or consent isn't even able to be gained. Like with animals or children.

For the rest of us that simply enjoy sex in a healthy manner, it's a ridiculous term to use.

I agree completely. I think you are better at voicing your opinion I found it difficult to explain my sentiments on this : )

For the first time, a Cracked article has genuinely irritated me.

The article pissed me off. I'm no fan of obnoxiously rich people, but this article is making fun of sex toys and those who use them.

The comments are as bad as the article. People have never seen and don't know what a fuck machine or a butt plug is and don't know how either work? WHAT do these people do in bed? Have two minutes of Missionary position PIV twice a month and call it a "sex life?"

Obviously the author is not in touch with his sexuality.

pervert to me has 2 meanings 1 bad 1 good. bad perversion is someone that engages extremely illegal and immoral sexual activity, ex stalking, rape, pedophilia,

good perversion someone who likes to talk about kinky stuff

The Title and snarky comments in the comment section and the comments the author wrote irritate me. Why is it creepy to have sex toys? I don't see anything creepy about. Just because something isn't your style doesn't mean others aren't into and we shouldn't be little anyone's likings; no matter what it is, unless it does harm to someone who isn't willing!

Pervert to me is defined as many different things. Mostly those who pray upon people or animals. However, I think you can be a pervert without actually attacking someone. If you are a peeping tom; you can still be a pervert.

I don't think a pervert is someone who uses toys, engages in kink, or someone who explores whatever sexual thing they desire. I do think uptight people call us perverts because they were brainwashed with the idea that enjoying sex and exploring your sexual desires are a dirty thing.

I don't like the snarky tone in the article, like you'd be crazy to spend more than $5 on anything to use sexually. I'd hate to have sex with whoever wrote that. How boring would that be? Not that they'd come anywhere near me and my 300+ toys anyhow. LOL!

I don't, however, have issue with the word pervert. I generally don't have issue with words, more how they are said and by whom. If one of my friends jokes and calls me a perv, I'm happy to laugh right along with them. Hell, I call myself a pervert quite often. It's my general belief that if you choose not to take offense to a word, it loses it's sting. Now, if some uptight jackass says it to me in a demeaning way because I choose to have lots of toys or engage in non-boring sex, I will laugh in the "you're so stupid" type of way. I still choose not to be offended, because hell, it's their loss. My sex life rocks and theirs probably consists of a few seconds/minutes of missionary with a person they aren't even sexually attracted to. Oh, how I envy you! (/sarcasm).

So I guess my general thought is that in my mind, I've come to take pervert as a compliment of sorts. Yes, I have more sex toys than some of the stores around here. Yes, I engage in all sorts of kinky things both in and out of the bedroom. Makes my life a happy place to be, so screw the idiots who are not as open as I am.

For people who have sex with children and animals, I would not dare say "pervert." I find "fucked up asshole/bitch" works much better for me. It doesn't make much sense to proudly claim being a perv and then lump myself together with those that do things to those who can't consent. That's a whole 'nother barrel of monkeys right there.

Pervert to me means a person trying to override another person's choice of sexual comfort. A person who engages in sexual acts with non-consentual humans or animals. One who pushes themselves on others either overtly but obviously or forcefully making another participate without knowledge or consent. It is also a person who takes things to a moral and legal extreme--like the male model in Canada, people who watch/do snuff films, etc. Sorry for the clinical definition, but I am trying to word it nicely, lol.

I don't know. I'm probably going to dodge tomatoes.

I found the article entertaining. Look at the source! It's cracked.com! They're meant to be inflammatory and provocative! They are doing what they intend with the responses they're getting. It's they're job. That site thrives on sarcasm and crazy comments. Their audience is mainly college aged people (including me). It resonates with their audience.

My view: If you want to shell out a couple of grand for a sex toy, that's your business. Fine. But it is far from pragmatic. I could never do it, but to each their own. So long as no one is doing anything illegal or such, go for it. I still think it's crazy for someone to shell out a grand on a gold butt plug, but that just means I would never do it. Do I think negatively of those who do this? No, but I can see where the article is coming from and why they wrote it and why it's successful.

I love free speech, I'm far from PC, and honestly *dodges rotten tomatoes* people take things too seriously these days. Take the words as you will and move on.

I saw it more as making fun of someone that thinks spending $1000 on diamond or gold sex toys means they're special. You can buy good quality toys for much less, without the pretension that comes with it being made of gold. It's much like the diamond and gold baby pacifier I've seen. Really? It's certainly a novelty, and your right to spend your money if you have it, but for most of us it is a bit silly. There's nothing wrong with having that opinion either.

I didn't really pick up a "pervert" overtone from the article either, but I also didn't take time to read comments.

Pervert is on the edge of legality for me. It's the peeping tom, the sexually harassing coworker/boss, the guy at the bar that just won't stop making lewd advances. They're annoying and whatever but they won't rape you in the back ally. Pedophiles, rapists and such are bastards or sickos or whatever. They need stronger language. Consensual actions between people and exploring ones sexuality and such are natural. That's sort of how I think of it. But my views also change rapidly as well, so this is just how I define it right now.

I call myself and other sexually open-minded people perverts. I use the verb "perv" as well. Although I say it jokingly, the word does not have a negative connotation for me. I never refer to pedophiles and such as perverts.

Cracked is a very tongue-in-cheek site, and they make fun of everything, so I wouldn't take them that seriously. For me, pervert can be more of a fun word. A lot of my friends have interesting tastes, and I don't really find that wrong or offensive. The stuff I do find offensive also tends to be criminal

Hey,what's wrong with the word pervert.I don't think it's anything wrong with it and don't think it should be applied to just certain people that are doing illegal acts.It can be applied to someone who is bold and naughty. It's not really that serious.

I'm not sure actually. I can see it going both ways, people have used the word pervert to describe sexual deviance in recent days.. rather than for what the word was intended to be used for... peeping toms, pedophiles, and such..

i see it as sexual deviance not a label for genuinely sick people. Ive been calling myslef a pervert for YEARS. I didnt realize people hated this word so much. something to think about!

I can go either way with the word "pervert" — laugh or be insulted — it really depends on the context and who's saying it.

I think of "pervert" as a word that is fun to use in scenarios where it's being reclaimed in a joking, positive way by people whose sexual interests unsettle some people, but I don't use it as an insult.

I'm okay with basically any sexual behavior as long as consensuality is fully respected.

I view this as up in the air and to each person, their own reasoning on it. Words are so very often constructed by society to all of a sudden be wrong. Whether it's offensive to one person or not, it's really all in the way a person perceives it in text. For instance, words have different meanings to different people varying in morals, culture, race, sexual orientation, upbringing, religion, etc. The only time I ever get offended at a word is if it's used in a negative sentence and the like.
As for 'pervert', I believe it could mean just someone who thinks about sex too much, but can go all the way up the spectrum to a sexual deviant, depending on context.
I really wish people wouldn't get so offended so easily...especially in today's world.

I guess my hubby and I would be called perverted by some, because of the sex life we lead and enjoy. To US, however, it is normal and I am SURE, to many here, we would be labeled as "prudish and boring", so...everyone falls somewhere on that scale of what they enjoy, thus it is NOT for anyone else to judge, so long as it is not illegal or hurtful (unwanted hurt, I guess) to anyone else.
