1. But I really like having 4 when I go to hotels. I generally snuggle myself in with them creating a sort of nest. Oh wait, I do have two, I have a body pillow that I just leave at the head and a regular pillow. I guess two or three regular pillows would work fine for me if I had a bead for them.

Three: one for hubby's head,one for me my head, and one that I spoon. our tiny dog shares one of our pillows in warm weather and nests between them when it's cold.

One regular pillow for my head, a backrest(not sure if that counts), a small squishy pillow for cuddling, and the little fleece pillow I made that hides my toys.

We have 5 and use 3. I don't see the need for the extra two but they make my partner happy.

8 in total:
2 body pillows (1 for each of us), hubby uses 4 standard pillows and I use 2. So yep, we use them all, no decorative useless pillows on our bed.
