Pornographic Video Reviews?

Contributor: MamaDivine MamaDivine
I totally understand what kind of items that EF sells and what they are all about. I get that, when doing reviews, we have to be tasteful and they encourage nudity. Which is fine. Nudity doesn't bother me.

However, a friend of mine that I had referred to this site a few months back found a video review that was so disturbing to her, she had to share it with me. Not disturbing-gross or sick kinda thing. But moreso along the lines of "Umm, I didn't realize EF supported this sort of review style???"

So I watched it and sure enough, a lady was having a toy being used on her. Most of the video was discreet-but towards the end you seen a "crotch shot" with the toy being held inside of her.

It was my understanding that we were not allowed to do "penetration" videos? Or did I misread that part?

I know that everyone has their own style and wants to make their mark on their review-and to each their own in that respect. Im not tryin to get anyone in trouble or say names or point fingers, but my friend was pretty put off by it and thought that it was a bit much for the site.

I was wondering, what are your thoughts on this? Am I wrong in my understandings about how the video reviews are allowed to be done? Thanks everyone for your responses in advanced!

You might want to check out this thread which is from when they announced the adult video review program.

To quote the original post:
We've asked these people to do these videos so they are 100% welcome by us as a company. They're not being done to garner extra attention or without approval. We approve! We love them!

...We realize not everyone is going to like the adult videos. To be frank, not everyone likes regular video reviews either...

I mean, it says a lot of other stuff, too, but that's the most relevant to your post.

That all being said, the rules also specify there shouldn't be any close-up genital shots, so perhaps the video review you checked out should be brought to the attention of Carrie Ann (who's in charge of videos) so it can be evaluated as to whether or not it meets the standards of EdenTube.

Personally, I don't care for them and will rarely watch them--but we're warned that it's an adult video at the beginning and if we don't want to watch, we're well within our rights to skip it.

All video reviews are approved by administrators and it is quite likely it was approved by JR or Carrie Ann. But, you cannot physically show the act of penetration (it's against Federal law and is a blanket law for all forms of pornography). If you're unclear you can always send a link to JR and he will look into it for you.

I'm still on the negative side of the fence about these.

The purpose of videos is to make customers buy the product. I'm not sure that someone rolling around with a toy is going to make anyone buy it.

This is just part of the whole thing I feel towards toy manufacturers who put overly sexual images or phrases all over the package while neglecting to put any useful information into it. Sex sells, right? No, useful information sells.

Now making that softcore porn-type is one thing, but if you're reviewing nipple clamps and show how they work on the actual nipple, that's a different story. If you're reviewing a flogger/cane/paddle and want to show how it works against someone's ass, also fine.

But hey, that's just my personal opinion and is only slightly related to this. Most of it comes from having to stare at walls of vibrator boxes with half naked women on them feeling themselves up.

I can personally say that Owl Identified's video review of the Mimi rhinestone pasties made me want to buy them.

I had one situation that I REALLY wanted to watch an adult review on a certain type of product because it confused me... And there weren't any adult reviews on that kind of product.

The only instance where I went looking for it was with suction cup dildos. I've heard people say "I stuck it to the wall and masturbated" but a demonstration of how (Do you stick it and back into it? Do you insert and then try and stick it to the wall while it's in you? How far over do you have to bend for it to work) was really what I needed.

While I don't think that they're as... Important for the slimline toys or bullets, there are some confusing toys out there where I can see the value in seeing how to use them.

In response to the topic, if there is a close up of penetration you may want to bring it to the attention of a moderator.

I recently watched a video review about nylons (that my sister made me watch out of shock)... the girl was just on the floor fondling her breasts and genitals with music in the background...nothinggg g being mentioned about the nylons. I'm sure it's fine as it's been approved and all, but I know my sister (it was her first time at the site) and I didn't enjoy it or quite understand the point of it either.
No offense to that reviewer by the way.

My overall opinion of adult video reviews is "meh." They don't bother me, but I don't have much use for them. Sometimes a demonstration of how a toy is used can be helpful, but otherwise I ignore them.

But yeah, if you think a video is out of line, let an admin know.

I don't watch the videos only because, I'm on dial up and it's too slow. I am grateful for the reviews since a majority of the time, the product lacks enough information. I've received toys that I didn't know how to use them correctly, so I used my imagination. The reviews can be very helpful. I also agree with another poster who said information instead of a large sexual photo of a model, would be great on the products.

Yea... I noticed a lot of those and since I prefer not to see that anyway, I ended up avoiding them ALL all together. I wasn't clear on the rules either, kinda hard to tell what's OK and what's NOT here.
