I was a pot head for many years, especially when I first moved out of my mom's house. I never had to pay for it. My boyfriend's always smoked and then my now step dad moved in, and he smokes daily. So even before I moved out, I was smoking on a daily basis. It got worse when I moved in with a guy who sold it and smoked it. We stayed stoned all day EVERY day. At age 19, I left him and hooked up with a guy who never even tried drugs, and it made him uncomfortable. I quit smoking pot, cigs, drinking, EVERYTHING cold turkey for the five years I was with him. When that relationship ended I smoked again with my step dad and my brother. It is sad to say, but is how we bond. I am not the type that needs it, but it is hard not to do it when someone is smoking it. I like it, but I know from being a pot head, that it can slow you down and make you lazy. At least that is how it does me. Now that I have a son, I rarely do it all. Every now and then, I visit my step dad or brother and we smoke, but ONLY if my son is no where around or he is asleep for the night. I always make sure that some one is there who doesn't smoke, like my mom just in case anything happens. It is really common where I live to smoke pot. The only people I know that don't at least on occasion are people who can't tolerate it.
I know I may get flack for this. I have found some people are against it strongly, and have even looked down on me because of it. I agree that if you abuse it, it is a problem, but that is just like everything else. I have seen friends of mine turn into alcoholics, pill heads, and crack heads and even have had their lives ruined over addictions to shopping, gambling, or even the internet. It's all about moderation.

Or pills! They are legal and can be much more dangerous. There is a huge drug problem in this country and more and more of it is Pharmaceuticals.

Not trying to be rude here, but there isn't really a specific way people act when stoned. It makes me less anxious, more open-minded, and able to concentrate better. Yes, it might make me a little more silly if I've smoked a lot, but I can (and do) smoke before work and no one would know the difference.

Everyone acts differently, so it's a bit narrow-minded to assume that everyone acts stupid when they're stoned. In fact, I've seen people act more stupid when they weren't stoned compared to when they are.

Just my two cents

I never have, and don't have an interest to. No big opposition, just not for me.

You're very right, Jesibel. People react differently.

My friend at the wedding has always been silly, even without it. She wasn't surprised of what she said about practicing to catch my bouquet, but the fact that she doesn't remember the incident at all. But her personality has always been consistent from when she was smoking and now that she isn't. She tries to hide her pot-past at work (since she works as a lab tech at a hospital), but she can't really hide her hippie philosophy and dreamy nature, so people have asked ...

In Mulder's case, it actually calmed his hyper-active ass down and he interacted on a more rational level with the world.

Exactly.

My boyfriend is pretty hyper-active himself, and can be a bit high strung and tense, and weed helps him relax and think more rationally. He actually had a doctor that asked him if he smoked weed- he answered truthfully- and the doctor said "Good, don't stop." Doc said because my man has "slight bi-polar tendencies" (his words, lol) that marijuana was a good way to medicate it and keep his moods on a more steady wavelength.

But, some people should not, or can't smoke weed. It's all about moderation, knowing your limits, and knowing what your body can and cannot handle- just like any other substance

My friends in high school didn't, so I really wasn't exposed to it then. After highschool some friends did and some didn't, but I would drink around them so I never really cared to try. Now I won't just because I have a son and just because it's illegal I won't. If it was legal I would probably try it and see if I like it, but its just not worth it legally to even chance buying it.

Yeah, I found how I acted was also influenced by the people I was around. If I was around intelligent and intellectual people then I would have great high conversations, not ridiculous ones. If I was around people of lesser intelligence then I was ridiculous and annoying.

I agree.

Even when I am high, I am the same person. I have a very high self-control, so even when I'm feeling "off," my actions are the same, no matter how good or bad that may be.

Definitely. I don't like being around people that act really stupid when I'm high, because I like how it actually stimulates my brain and makes me think of things I might not have if I weren't high. My boyfriend and I have very intellectual conversations when we're high.

Same here. I have very good self control as well, and I do not have an addictive personality, so I can handle my high well. Only people that know me very well can even tell if I am high or not, because I really don't change all that much, aside from feeling more relaxed.

Never tried it, don't plan on doing so either. Just the smell itself starts making me have coughing fits and gagging. Cig smoke does the same to me, but only if I directly inhale it, but the smell of pot is worse.

Also, I hate anything that impedes my thinking and rationalization. I took vicodin once, and it made me loopy as hell, and even too much alcohol I don't like because of how tired and sluggish I get. I like to have a sharp mind and keep on top of things.

I guess I can say the only only way I'd ever try it is if it was in a pill form and prescribed by a doctor since I do suffer from depression and anxiety/panic attacks. Regular meds mess with me too much to be of any help, but I don't want to be smoking anything either since smoking is bad for your lungs anyway.

I don't see how it's so much worse than tobacco. Tobacco causes lung cancer too, but it's legal. Pot isn't. It just doesn't make sense to me. If I'm going to smoke anything, I'd rather get a nice high out of it and stay at home and chill. I wouldn't want to smoke anything on a regular basis though.

That's the way I see it. Plus, pot can be vaporized as well, (a popular method for cancer patients who use it medically) which is much healthier and does not contain any carcinogens. I prefer vaporizing because of the health benefits and it gives a much clearer high.

Oh, my boyfriend just got his friend a vaporizer. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a good idea.

I have twice. First time I felt nothing (this was actually the night my boyfriend asked me out on our first date. He knew I'd gone off and smoked at that party and almost didn't ask me out, but he realized I wasn't high, and thought it was cute how much of a naive college freshman I was).

The second time was at a party that I was already drunk at. I'm pretty sure I got high, but, I mean. I was already drunk so I don't really remember feeling all that different. I've never done it since then. Perhaps if it were legal, I'd give it a try, but I'm a singer so smoking is a no-go for me

I have never had the desire to smoke pot or do any other drugs. I have seen the damage pot/drugs have done to my sister and my cousins.

I've only tried it a couple of times, but I really don't like the way it makes me feel. To me, it feels almost exactly the same as being drunk, only when it makes me nauseous as hell, I have no idea what to do about it other than lay there and be miserable, lol

Never have, never will, not interest in even hanging out with those that do. At the time when everyone else was trying them, I had a lot of emotional issues, so I already took far too much medication for a normal person. I didn't want to risk anything making that worse, so I avoided it. I still don't like dealing with those that do it all the time or are high, they make my job very frustrating.

No, no, aaaand no, not really.

I don't have much interest in altering my mind. The damn thing is wobbly enough as it is, no need to give it a kick. I don't have an issue with people who do want to smoke, so long as they don't overdue it and become a public nuisance... or try to pass it off as a 'completely harmless substance'.

Sorry sunshine; smoke is never good for your lungs; the stuff is a narcotic and extended use will turn you into a vegetable or at least into a really irritating halfwit; and no, the stuff doesn't relieve stress - it just covers it up like alcohol does; you will have to deal with your issues when you come back down.

Smoke'em if you got'em, I don't care - just don't try to delude yourselves.

Nope, never done it. I've never done drugs in general, although I don't actually consider pot to be in the same category as other, more harmful, drugs. I'm a member of NORML (National organization for the Reform of Marijuana Legislature) because I think the money spent on trying to prosecute and jail people because of it could be better used elsewhere AND the reasoning behind why it was initially outlawed was nothing more than financial and political. I think it should be regulated like alcohol, taxed, and used to help our economy.

But on a personal level, no way - first off I have an anxiety disorder and HATE anything that makes me feel the slightest bit not in control, and I also have a pretty faulty set of lungs - really bad asthma, etc. Inhaling smoke isn't going to do anything but damage them further.

I used to smoke a bit, but always really sporadically. Now not at all, even though I live with a bunch of potheads. I LOVE the smell, but I hate not being able to focus on schoolwork.

Never have, not likely to. We know tobacco is dangerous, and pot hasn't had enough studies done on it showing safety to where I'd be comfortable.

The first time, I was really drunk and a friend actually just stuck a joint in my mouth; not my greatest moment, but I was young. I have nothing against it in moderation; I know many people who do smoke sometimes, even professionals like bank executives and doctors. It just really doesn't do anything for me, except occasionally make me tired, so it's just generally not worth the expense and risk. Now magic mushrooms are a different story...
