How much more repressed are college campuses now then they were 30 years ago???

I know this is hard to answer if you were not there then, and thus are not on campus now, or vise versa, but when I was in college, different sororities and fraternities had actual college lecture halls, where, on Wed or Friday nights, they showed XXX movies (old 8mm, mind you), movies as "fund raising night" activities. They sold candy, soda and popcorn, and ALL KINDS of students showed up. Couples, singles and YES, even professors and their wives/dates. There was all kinds of giggles, sound effects from the crowd and general party atmosphere to go around. No one...NO ONE AT ALL, seemed to take offense, or complain. This went on for the entire FOUR YEARS I was in college...and there were posters around campus advertising these "events", so it was certainly with the schools knowledge and blessing. I cannot imagine, today, anything like it on ANY campus (or am I wrong). While they now allow Boy/Girl dorms (and even co-ed rooms), unheard of in MY day, it seems the overall campus "tone" at several schools where I know people enrolled, is FAR more "suppressed" then it was decades ago.

What is YOUR take on this?

I wouldn't really know. I'm still going to college, but I have never been engaged in "college life". I don't know, or care, what goes on at the dorms or student union.

I never lived on campus so I have no idea even though I graduated my 4 year degree in 2003 so that wasn't THAT long ago.

I went to a Jesuit University (it was a bit less than 30 years ago, though) and we NEVER had XXX movies on campus. Men couldn't be on Women's floors after 10:00 PM and we had no co-ed housing.

So, I'm not really the person to ask. When our two older ones are in college (but we can't afford to allow them to live there, sadly) and I didn't see much oppression. There were protests and GLBT clubs, but no XXX movies. Seeing as some kids start college as young as 17 or younger, I can't see that as being a gauge of a "repressive" University, to be honest. It's certainly nothing I ever experienced and even My Man, who is older (and was in college 30 or so years ago) and went to a State University ever experienced either. However, his college didn't have restrictions on who was allowed in your room at whatever time.

I remember sneaking him into my dorm a number of times and once he went out for coffee and breakfast to bring back and they wouldn't let him back into the dorm, because men weren't allowed in our dorm until after 11:00 AM on weekends.

I go to a religious institution, but I barely mingle with the other students and I never attend student activities. If I want to have a porn party, I'll call up my close friends and we'll watch porn at my house.

I went to college before AIDS and before hepatitis and herpes were well known. Things were pretty wild - my college age kids are 1000% more responsible than I was - as are most of their friends.

I'm sure there is still a lot of sex and drugs going on (I did the sex not the drugs) - but I'm not seeing it because my kids aren't into it.

I can't imagine anything remotely sexy or, heck, even related to sexual health or anything happening at my school.
