I have a permanent retainer in the bottom of my mouth. I've had it there for almost eight years and yesterday it detached from my mouth on one side. Has anyone had this happen?? And how many times has it happened to them?

The right side on my top retainer pops off all of the time now. Maybe four times in the past year? It took four years or so for it to come off the first time, but all of the reattachments have sucked. It's off right now, because I don't have insurance anymore and can't go to the the dentist and get it fixed. It's pretty frustrating.

The permanent retainer along my bottom teeth has never popped off but my top retainer has been broken for a few years. It's just a small piece of metal that is cemented onto the back of my two front teeth. One side of it came uncemented and is loose. I'm always getting stuff stuck under it. It's really rather annoying but my orthodontist is 300 miles away and I don't have the money to have it repaired.
