Living with a parent of the opposite gender, and having two dogs, I always close the door. It's just less awkward. Even when I'm home alone, I shut the door out of habit.
While writing this poll, I realized that the word "shut" is weird as a verb.
I usually have the door open. If we have the windown open because it is sunny, I'll shut the door - there is a HUGE window right across from the bathroom door!
It depends if I'm home alone or if I'm anticipating having to repaint the walls when I'm done.
Plus, my cat insists that the sink is he water dish, so I have to leave the door open or he'll paw it.
My cats do this as well. One of them can even slip a paw under the door and shimmy it open unless I have it locked. Little terrorist kitties.. They get hair all in the bathroom, and lick water out of the bathtub, which makes one of them constantly throw up. Therefore, the bathroom is a no kitty zone.
Most of the time I close the door, but sometimes I leave it open if I'm talking to my partner (or listening to music). Honestly, I'm not embarrassed to pee in front of him. We're practically joined at the hip.
If someone else is in the apartment, I close the door all the time. I don't care how close you are, there are just some things that require decency and privacy.
Even when alone, I still close the door 99% of the time.
My ex-roomates fiance shits with the bathroom door open and it drives her crazy. That is just disgusting to me.
I close it 100% of the time when my fiance is home, 90% of the time when the kids are running around. I get worried if I have to use the bathroom and my very adventurous little boy is running around without supervision. Almost always close the door though... more often than not.
depends on the toilet usage. Peeing leaves it open, not gonna be in there long enough to care. Now BM's closed door unless its just me and my son here. He is 3 yrs old and freaks out if he can't see me, plus he would tare my house down if I closed it. Weird but thats the way he is. Got to brake him of that soon.
Inspired by the "Naked in your own house?" thread.
I have kids and even a bothroom break can lead to disaster if'n you can't hear the little angels...so I got into the habit of leaving the door open. Now that they are older I am changing it back.
If its just me and my family home no. We have a master bathroom that has a half wall and a toilet behind it. When its just family they all come in all the time to get makeup, clothes, shower, etc.
Other times when my sisters friends are over sometimes theyle use mine. I dont care but, i just close the door.
If I'm just peeing I usually leave the door open. We crossed that line when I was pregnant and we only had one bathroom. Since then, I've had four babies and the younger ones have always followed me in there. If my husband is home for #2 I close the door. I'm not ready, nor do I think I will ever be, to poop in front of him.

Yeah, I remember those days. They fear-freak if you disappear for a few seconds. They do that "Sheldon" thing on the door, "Mama?" (knock knock knock) "Mama?" Knock knock knock "Mama? Knock knock knock. THEN the screaming and the two footed banging on the door starts. Easier to leave it open until they are four or a so, and realize you ARE coming out eventually.
My fiance and I have lived together for a few years and most lines have been crossed, but this is one thing I still insist on doing. Now that I think about it, though, I'm not sure how much of it is discomfort and how much is just force of habit-- I close and lock the door even when I'm alone in the house.
I am in the habit of closing the door when anyone is home, even my husband, but I like never shut it when I'm there alone. Hubby like always leaves the door open, and is trying to get me to leave it open when he's home too.
