none for me and luckily the bf doesn't either. My whole family and a lot of my friends smoke or did smoke while I was growing up so I'm not sure how I managed to skip that whole teenage phase, but I'm glad that I did.

I smoked when I was really young, because I thought it was cool and I liked making smoke rings. I was fortunate enough to not get addicted, since I only smoked between the ages of 13-15 and did not have money to buy cigarettes. My friend's mom bought us cigarettes and when her and I got into a fight and stopped talking I wasn't able to get cigarettes. I did end up taking some from my dad at first, but he started to notice and began asking questions, so I stopped. Thankfully, I haven't picked the habit back up. Every once in a while, when I am feeling really stressed I feel like I need one, but I have resisted this far, so I refuse to give into that impulse.

Ex smoker here. Gave up 2 years ago and I'll never ever go back to it. I hated it even when I was doing it, I hated the taste, the smell. I would even lie to people about it, tell them I didn't smoke but people in my house did. Because it's just icky.

I was a "social smoker" though. Started in high school with friends on the hill. As I got older it was only when around people who were smoking or in the bars. I was never addicted to it so i guess I was pretty dumb for doing it so long.

I've never actually smoked tobacco in any form.

I plead the 5th for other stuff......

My Man smokes and it really is smelly and I worry for his health. He's developed this lovely cough, and although he is only supposed to smoke outside, he brings the smell in with him and I really hate it.

My mother was a 2 pack a day smoker when I was a kid, and I was sick all the time. I'm also actually, really allergic to cigarette smoke, so for a lot of reasons I think people need to think twice and then again before lighting up in around other people....or when they will be near other people in the near future.....or when their clothes will be washed by other people.....

Or if other people love them and don't want to watch them die a terrible agonizing death, like my best friend watched her husband and Dom die of lung cancer, over a 3 year period. He died just a few months ago. Both the man and his wife and his son (and everyone who loved him) went through hell with this lung cancer. And, it all could have been prevented. Sad. And stupid to have happened. He was one of those "never sick a day in my life" types. Until the lung cancer got him in his mid 50s. He went from about 240 lbs down to 130 lbs while he was sick. He literally looked like a living skeleton. The chemo was HELL, and even after that, he didn't eat for several months as he was dying. Every bite of food was forcefully puked up, because he had developed a tumor on his stomach as the cancer metastasized. It hit all his internal organs, even morphine and Oxycodone, plus fentanyl couldn't touch the pain in the last year. It took a LONG time for him to die. It eventually hit his brain, but the coughing and puking blood was the worst. His family had to watch every minute of it. So awful, because it didn't have to happen. He left behind a young widow, who is now broke and will probably lose her house, a young son and a mound of debt. They couldn't even afford to bury him, had to have a direct cremation. His smoking did nothing but create pain and waste.

I know it's hard to quit. But, it's just so awful for the smoker. And the people around the smoker.

None for me. As a former asthmatic kid, I love my lungs! But, I'm not going to sit here and tell other people not to. We all make choices in life so if you do smoke, that's alright with me.

Quitting for the 27th time. ugh!
Honestly, I wish I had never started but I started when I was a young teen. Sadly when I started smoking, smoking was "cool". Yunno, all the cool kids did it. I wish we were taught the dangers and health risks of smoking. I wish I hadda known the difficulty I would have quitting if I decided to smarten up.

We are talking about cigarettes right?

I'm not, but my partner is and I don't mind it. I'm well aware of the dangers of secondhand smoke, but I love the way he smells after a cigarette. It's oddly calming and makes me want to cuddle up to him.

Good luck, Venus. My Man was able to quit with the newer drug (whose name escapes me now) until his mother, for some reason upset that he quit (she's been smoking since she was 12 and doesn't care) started telling him lies about the drug he was on, he stopped taking it and started smoking again.

I hope you succeed this time.

I'm a smoker, but I wish I wasn't. I quite once for five years, when I was in a relationship with some one who didn't smoke. As soon as the relationship was over, I started again. I quite for while while I was pregnant, but as soon as I stopped breastfeeding, I started back. I really want to quite though. My whole family smokes and heavily. I see my mom constantly struggling with bronchitis and coughing and hacking all the time, and I'm afraid she will die from smoking. Really, it is a nasty dirty habit and EXPENSIVE. I smoke the cheap cigs, but even then it costs about $100 a month. If we saved that money, we could go on a vacation every year, or at least a weekend getaway. It stinks up the house, my clothes, stains my teeth. I hate it!

Honestly, if I could give the cigs, I wouldn't mind my drinking or pot smoking! lol

Cigs are a daily habit for me that are so expensive and I know they will truly kill me one day. Drinking can be much worse, don't get me wrong, but for me, I don't drink that often or smoke pot that often. It's occasional, so if I could give up cigs it would be much healthier for me overall.

As opposed to most of the posts here, I do believe that one can be "sort of" a smoker. I am. Many years ago I picked up a nice Dunhill pipe and will have a bowl or two maybe every month or so. I'll have a cigar about the same frequency, as well I'll have a cigarette a couple times a year with friends. I do understand that tobacco is addictive but I'm not addicted to it... just lucky from that perspective I guess.

I dont. I have family that smokes 2 packs a day. I can not stand to be in the same room as them, because of the smell. I can smell it on the breath of my coworkers when we are going over building plans. I dont think I could ever smoke. So unhealthy!

I used to smoke, but quit. And I am just super happy to have been the 100th voter for your poll. Now you can say "I polled 100 people and..... well, I'll leave the rest to your imagination." That will really piss people off. They will be SO confused.

I tried smoking a couple times when I was about 12 or 13. Didn't really care for it, and I'm so glad it never became a habit. My dad was a smoker my whole life up until about 5 years ago. Took him a couple tries, but he got it.

My boyfriend smokes sometimes. Never around me though because I hate it. I don't really want him smoking for health reasons. Sure, we're still young and it's no big deal right now. But when we get older, I really don't want anything happening to him. Plus, I don't want to have to listen to him hack up a lung. :/

I have a friend who's about 37, and the doctor told him that if he doesn't quit smoking, he's going to die fairly soon. He's constantly hacking, and I hate it. But he refuses to quit, no matter what the doc tells him.

I smoked for about 8 years or so. A few months ago I quit buying them and was bumming them off of friends a few times a week for a total of maybe 5 cigarettes a week. I was up front about it and they didn't care because every time somebody needed a smoke, I'd always bum them out. Last week or the week before my friend bummed me one and I made it about halfway through and went "ugh" at the taste. So at this point I'm a social smoker I guess. I've all but quit, but I'll also probably have a few when I've been drinking.
