We're doing a lot of things behind the scenes that you guys aren't seeing and we will always address issues with users privately. That being said, I assure you that things are going to improve. And they already have in a lot of ways.

Agreed. I just read a post by Lilac where a person said something like "Sounds good", this on a review that said it was not the best product. In that case it is obvious the person did not read the review, I bet we all get those.

Nope, this is not one of them. This is actually the type of thread I enjoy seeing... It's proactive. I'm talking about the threads that complain about "point-farming" but then give no ideas of what can be done about it. Or when people make assumptions that a person is point farming without considering that maybe their new or just don't know their way around yet.

I think that some people might just put "" or simple comments like "yay" as a way of replying. I've spoken to people who have told me that they feel it's rude to read and not reply.

I think we just need to remember that not everyone is point farming. Sometimes the "" in the comments can be genuine from a newcomer that hasn't quite learned how things are meant to be done on this website.

It sure is. But I have complete faith in the powers that be that solutions will happen. It just takes time.

Every day I am amazed at what the admins get done, pure awesomsauce.

If someone leaves me a smiley face I don't get my panties in a knot about it. Like Tim says, it improves our rank so whatever : ) The whole "yay" thing was definitely odd though. I didn't get worked up about it but it was confusing. I guess I'm just so used to seeing "thanks", "thank you", and even the notorious, "ty" lol.

Here's where I think the point is. I didn't, I'll admit, read the entire thread as of yet... but this is just my knee-jerk reaction.

When you started, did you know what was "appropriate to post?" Did you know that it would be looked on as point farming for asking a three word question? With 200 topics to post under, how did you know that your question had been answered or even which one to post under?

I am pretty sure that this is the reason that Kindred wanted to start a Big Brothers/Big Sisters type program. To have a member of the community reach out to someone as they registered for the program, introduce themselves, and to give them some guidelines and be available to answer some questions.

Whatever did happen to that idea?

That's an amazing idea! I know the mentor program is available but that's for people who want to review. I know I tell my students that I can help them around the site (to figure out everything because I know it can be a bit overwhelming at first), but for those who don't plan on reviewing, a program like that would be fabulous! This is the first I heard of this. I like it!

Well, On another note Tim, I will say that at first-I was all about the points. I mean, who wouldn't be? I came here just browsing, and when I realized I got points for freebies, I was all about it! For the first few weeks I was all gung ho and doing as much as I could. When I started to actually read through the forums and deal with customer support on some of the orders I had placed, I started to realize just what an awesome place this was! I started to want to get more involved in helping others, and learning as much as I possibly could from others. It was pretty cool! After I realized all this, I started calming down and making sure that when I posted to the forums, it was going to be productive or something that was relevant.

It was told to me, that instead of getting upset or being negative with the new commers, to gently push them into the right direction as far as what we're about. If someone posts something that has already been posted, maybe link them to where that post is, to see if their answers are given there at that thread. Or tell them about the search engine above. When I first came here, I didn't realize that the search engine was for the forums while you're in the forums. I seriously thought it was just for searching products/shopping lol.

Good point MamaD, the points definitely are a way of getting new customers/members to the website and at first. I remember in another thread a few people had mentioned the same thing as you (how they came originally for the points but then started to become really attached to the community, etc). So that is definitely something that needs to be taken into consideration!

Thanks Stormy for all the work that you and everyone else does behind the scenes!

I agree that somethings have already changed-Within the last few weeks, I have seen several threads like this one. I think maybe the newbies are reading them and understanding some of what we're about and how we want to help them to become more productive within the community. Thats just my opinion. If they don't KNOW that its an issue or they are doing anything wrong, something tells me that it would just keep happening. I know that it won't change everyone's mind about the points system or the unnecessary posts in forums, or stop the point farming, but I think that for some-they may have gotten the hang of what it is to be part of the community by reading some of these complaints.

But, when you have limited time, and you go to the first page of the forum and it's filled with "Is this good?" "What is this like?" "Is this worth it?" all threads started by the same person in under 3 minutes, and then 5 more people do the same thing, it gets irritating.

Yeah, I don't click on them, but it's nice to be able to go to the forums and see interesting conversations. When I have to wade through obvious point farming, page after page, I have a right to get irritated. I've shut the computer and walked away at times, and I know I'm not the only one.

My point was that the forum also has to be inviting and interesting to the seasoned members of the community, too. Otherwise, where would be be?

In our haste to make newbies feel "welcome" (which I think for the most part they do) we don't want to alienate the seasoned members.

Yeah, I've seen reviews where the reviewer did not like the toy at all and was quite eloquent in describing why, and there were comments like, "I can't wait to try it!" Really, you want to try a toy that treats your anus like sandpaper? (Well, maybe... )

But, at least you post a link to the information requested, instead of just saying, "Search for it." There is a huge difference between those things. Providing the link answers the person's question even if they have to click through to get to it. At least you bothered to point them in the right direction, and that is something I'd be just as grateful for if it were me.

This is actually why I am more likely to come to the forum with a question than ask on a review page. I remember seeing a thread calling the thank yous point farming, and reviewers saying they were getting so many thank yous that they don't even check the review comments anymore, which doesn't really help anyone.

I wrote this post and then rewrote it three or four times, took me all day just about. Then I sat there looking at it for about two hours before posting. My fear was that it would turn out bad. I can't tell you how much I am glad that folks are liking it and learning from it.
