Starting a blog, how to get traffic?

Contributor: FantasyFanatic FantasyFanatic
I was reading up on the ambassador/affiliate program for bloggers and thought;
1. Those perks would be awesome
2. I know other sites that offer such things for bloggers
3. Blogging is something I think I'd enjoy.

So I started writing up a plan for a huge blog, which is actually 7 different blogs covering different topics. I've created each of the blogs on blogger.com and know what I'll be posting in each of them, but I still need to work on the aesthetics.
My question is, if you have a blog, how did you get followers/every day traffic?
Should I also make social sites (facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc) promoting the blog?
What are some other ways?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions. This is actually really exciting for me and I can't wait for it it take off :]

Tag the hell out of it.

Post updates on forums you go to (after you've made a few posts, so there's more than one thing to read), but it's best to not sign up to a site just to promote your blog, but rather be active in the site and its community, and then promote it. That helps with the word of mouth aspect, and it gives you a personality, a face, behind the blog, which helps people connect better to both you and the blog.

Thanks for the good advice. I'm starting to realize that this is going to be A LOT more work than I had originally thought.. But I guess it will just be that much more satisfying when it all starts to come together

Also, I'm pretty sure there is a thread on here with blogs from site members. It got me a couple followers for my blog. I've got two of them. My eden blog: link

and my personal blog (which is slightly more entertaining if you know me):link

shoot me a message with your blog address and i'll check it out! When it's ready of course.

Use Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook! Also, run contests where people get entries to follow you. Also, if you plan to review things on there, you can post your sex toy reviews to the online magazine(?) pleasurists.com !

My two cents - if you start a blog with the goal in mind of getting some monetary compensation, your blog is going to suck.

Blog because you love it and you are interested in it. It takes a lot of hard work, it's not something that everyone can do. It's also very easy to get disheartened when starting out because -everyone- has a blog. So, you have to be dedicated to blogging because you really enjoy it.

Not saying you shouldn't try or anything, just trying to give a little insight from a blogger/ambassador.

This is all good advice, posting regular updates to Twitter can help spread the word about your blog.

Oh I know, I really don't expect to make much, if anything from this. It would just be the icing on the cake if I did.
I'm doing it because I enjoy sharing my knowledge and interests with other people and getting their feedback/opinions. It is proving to be a lot of work, but it's work that I enjoy, and quite frankly it's more productive than sitting on facebook all day :3
