Despite various state laws, do you still TEXT or TALK on your cell phone while driving?

I will only talk on the phone while driving if I'm using my handsfree device. I do talk quite often, but I avoid doing so in dangerous situations like heavy traffic, rain, or road construction. I never text while driving, though I will break the phone out if stopped waiting for a train or a particularly long wait in line at the bank, etc. That's it. I think texting while driving is very, very dangerous for the driver, any passengers, and all the cars around them.

my husband and i do not do this and i have no respect for people who do. when they issue you a license to drive a 2 ton vehicle that has the ability to end a life at the drop of a hat, that gives YOU the responsibility to make sure you take every measure to not injure yourself and others. if you don't care if you wreck and die, that's fine. but it is not fair to endanger someone else's life or lives just because you want to talk or text on your phone. pull over for that shit if you need to have a conversation. if it's not that important, i promise you can wait until you get to your destination.

I never text while driving or read emails, but I do use my phone for voice calls because my vehicle has a built in hands free option that is amazing!!!

I think I've answered the phone while driving twice in my life, and both were emergencies.

I have worked hard to avoid doing it now. When the phone rings, however, I will answer. If it is a critical work text, I will use my voice recognition and say "I'm driving now, I will get back to you shortly".

I don't drive (yet) but even when I get my license, I plan on pulling over if the phone rings. It really pisses me off when we drive by people doing that though.
The other day I actually saw some idiot using his KNEES to steer his car so he could finish the text he was typing after the light went green and traffic, his car included, started moving again (the road was pretty straight, so I guess in his mind it was safe enough).

I don't drive but I see other people messing with their phones while driving and I think it's dangerous.

I read a study a few months ago (please don't ask me to find it!! It'd be impossible!!) by a friend at an insurance company that did a bunch of reaction tests on various people in regards to talking on a cell phone handsfree/using hands, texting, text to type and found that people who actually text to type have a higher incident/accident statistic than people who just simply text. Reason: because people will still need to use their hands if there is a mistake in the text.

Using a handsfree unit to talk was the best overall unless the ear peice slid out or fell or something then the accident rate soared.

My sister used to travel one hour to and from work, and we used to skype many times a week. She'd plug in her earphone/microphone when we first started calling, then plugged in her bluetooth when she got that for Christmas. It was too dangerous not to get a bluetooth for her as she said the wire from the earphone/mic frequently got in her way.

My other sister has received numerous tickets in numerous states and provinces and countries, for talking on the telephone while driving. While she had me in the car with her, she is forbidden to use the phone. She would drive at 40-50miles per hour, her kids in their seats, while texting people and posting messages to her facebook. To me... this is just dangerous. She was highly annoyed when my other sister and I taught her kids to ask about their safety when she used her phone while driving.

Here in China, our speed limit within the city limits is really slow and there are countless accidents daily. It is very dangerous here to walk on the side walks... and in my opinion, you have to be mental to want to drive here. It's like go-karts and bumper cars all in one. People talk, text, smoke while driving. Most accidents here are thankfully not all that serious, but most of them happen because of mobile phone use or cyclists.

I hate cyclists who don't wear helmets (to expand on this... In my eleven years here in China, I have only seen maybe eight different people wear a helmet and follow the traffic laws. So in my strange logic, I am going to say, that the only cyclists who wear a helmet follow the law).
