Steampunk is gorgeous, creative, inspiring, and I simply adore it. The mix of Victorian sensibility and whimsy, the fuzzy science of ether and just-a-touch-beyond-re al steam technology, the background of supernatural influence and societal decay, the wild imaginings of explorers and writers ... yes, it's quite appealing. Movies that are in the genre are Wild Wild West (with Will Smith), Robot Carnival (anime), Van Helsing, Howl's Moving Castle (anime) ... damn it, my ex-husband took off with the GURPS 'Steampunk Sourcebook', which has a long list of Steampunk-inspired movies and novels.

I have a friend here that is very into the Steam Punk scene. She sews all these incredible costumes and the photo shoots that come out of it are gorgeous.

I'm okay with it, I know its gaining popularity these days. I definitely love the look, but it is kinda weird talking to people that are really into it (sorta like Renaissance fair conversations, but more confusing.)

I'd kill for some Howl's, though.

It's funny, the other day I posted that I had never heard of steampunk before. And strangely enough, the other day I was watching Castle, and the episode was centered around the murder of a steampunker.
