Oh, summer jobs. You know, the ones you had during high school or college to try to make a little cash. The ones you wouldn't return to even if the pay doubled...

Seeing that I've found myself in the middle of (yet another) summer job hunt, I thought this would be a fun topic. What's the worst summer job you've had (or any past job for that matter)? Or the best? Any fun stories?

Last summer I worked at a certain theme park. NEVER AGAIN. Standing in the middle of the sun in a ridiculous outfit, no water, and barely making minimum wage... no thank you!

At the same time, with the economy the way it is, I might find myself there again :o

My first summer job lasted throughout high school. I worked at my hometown's Dairy Bar/Pizza place.

Other than the crap pay (2.50/hr), the nearly free pizza and ice cream was a bonus. To this day I can still make a perfect soft serve cone at the Chinese Buffet.

Worst: Roustabout for an oil lease company. I was covered in silver paint most days and gained about 30 lbs despite sweating my bootie off (fast food breakfast most days and smoking about 2 packs a day)

I was 13 and decided I needed to do something while visiting my Dad in Missouri while he was working. So I asked if the day care center in town needed a junior assistant.

To this day, I NEVER want to be around crowds of children, I sincerely believe that child care workers do bully certain children, and a week there was enough hell for me to not try to find work again until I graduated high school.

Although it did give me the greatest gift imaginable for someone of my temperment ...

The desire to NEVER have children. Whenever I got an urge to even THINK about wanting to have children, I just remember what little savages I had to deal with at the day care ... instant birth control.

Really. If the anti-contraceptive people don't want teenage births, then make junior high kids work at day cares. 'Just think, you'll have one of these if you have sex!' It'll work, trust me.

Oh man. I had a similar experience with preschool kids. Total nightmare! Vicious little creatures, children are. I prefer kittens.

My first summer job was working at a mall "restaurant" that we affectionately called "Beef N Barf". Totally sucked. I was glad my parents made me quit when high school started again in the fall.

I shoveled shit. I rode horses, and I always had barn jobs. I got to exercise race horses one summer. That was really cool.
