I agree! It's so bizarre to me that any parent would want to remove a NATURAL part of their baby's body for aesthetic reason! Let him decide that when he's old enough.

It's not that I prefer one over the other, but I don't believe in it. It's mutilation of someone who is incapable of defending himself.

Someone explain the "doesn't matter" votes to me. Do people not care about other people being harmed? People raise an uproar about female circumcision in Africa but Americans are brainwashed into thinking male circumcision is ok.

Functions of the Foreskin

That site in general has plenty of informative reading. Disturbingly, American anatomical diagrams tend to omit the foreskin completely.

I don't get the "So he looks like his father" arguments. It makes no sense to me. Should girls' nipples be reshaped so they look like their mothers'? Honestly, to me that makes about as much sense. But that's my opinion.

I'm curious as to what you decide, Ash.

Or worse, their vulvas reshaped to resemble their mothers'? *shudder*

Nice to see some informative links posted too. More knowledge is never bad!

i'm cut. i don't remember it. nobody remembers it. your child will not remember it. so, not wanting to hurt him...well, he's not going to remember and hold it against you. he may hold it against you someday when he has to explain to some girl with a horrified look on her face what's going on down there. of course, that would be a lack of education problem on the girls part and not because there is something wrong with being uncut. but it could still be awkward. in the end, i don't think it matters much either way. i think of crusties. bacteria. infection. a turtle neck would be more likely to collect unwanted...stuff. but it's nothing a person couldn't learn to get along with. blah, blah. off with his head!

It made me feel rather ill actually.
However, I'm even more happy that I did not allow that to be done to my son.

Circumcision doesn't really matter unless it's a cultural thing. Most of the world doesn't do it and it's not really correlated with hygiene

I don't think it matters, but I guess I prefer uncircumcised a little because it's somewhat more attractive, but I don't really care. I know some people are very against it, but I think the pros outweigh the cons, medically speaking.

Are you people actually reading the other posts? The arguments about hygiene are utter nonsense. Circumcision doesn't have ANY pros.

Let him make his own choice about his own body when he is grown. A uncircumcised penis is healthier and actually a lot more attractive to many women. IT is society that wants you to think that you need ot cut off a chunck of your childs penis. and they dont numb it either.

I'm not really sure how to vote, so I didn't, but I certainly wouldn't circumcised my boy, if I had one. I see no reason for it; if it's "cleanliness", just teach them how to clean themselves! I, personally, couldn't take my baby to have his sensitive, private area chopped! Poor thing!

I'm in the 'other' category. I have never been with an uncircumcised man. My son, now 2, is circumcised. It's helpful to me because my son is easier to keep clean.

Circumcision causes the glans of the penis to become rough and dry, via a process called keratinization. (Click the link for before/after photos.) more info

These pro circumcision myths/lies are very deeply ingrained into people's minds in USA. Sadly it's evident even in this discussion.
