I have no idea what 2 of your options mean...

I'm heading up to the middle of the state to see my family that weekend. I'll be back down to Detroit area Xmas night.

Where you ask? Ever see "The Incredible Dr. Pol" on Nat Geo Wild? I went to school with Charles, his son.

I am a pilot, and I am leaving for 5 days on Christmas day. I'll be all over the country during the holiday. We are going 4 hours north to Nashville the weekend before.

Seems obvious to me
Over the river and through the woods, not too far = short distance
Are we their yet = long distance
I'll be home for Christmas, or whatever you may be celebrating. = staying home

Not for Christmas, but we are going to Czech Republic in January It still counts as holiday season for me as all the winter holidays in my country are celebrated in January (including Christmas).
