I think this is such a neat idea! My sister wants her ashes put in fireworks so she can be shot up into the sky.

I'm torn between something like this and a proper Viking style funeral. (boat+fire=epicness)

That's brilliant! I want to be cremated anyways, but then I wonder who will want to hold onto my ashes for forever. Becoming a tree is truly giving back to the earth.

Nice idea and after the funeral my son would never go back to visit my grave anyway. But my wishes are for my ashes to go to Arlington National Cemetery and rest among our nations heroes. My lazy son would then always have the bragging rights to say "Papa is at Arlington".

I would definitely do this. What a good idea.

This seems very odd to me, and a bit creepy. Maybe it's the Japanese legend of an emperor disliking cherry blossoms being white, so he ordered the bodies of warriors be buried under ever cherry tree in the land. It's a little unnerving to think of that legend while walking through a park late at night when I lived in Japan, just saying.

Pretty awesome...I'd like to be able to pick the tree though. I'd like a weeping willow

I'd have to set some ashes aside though; one to keep in a small container for my kids and a small handful to sprinkle in the San Francisco bay where we put my uncle when he died of AIDS back in 96...

I love this idea, too. I never liked the thought of being buried as we traditionally do it because it's such a waste of space and resources, so cremation was always what I leaned towards. This just takes it one lovely step further!

My ashes are going to be places in two different locations that mean a lot to me and neither one would be a good place for a tree.

I would do it. I really want to donate my body to medical science though. I think it is wonderful. Student doctors get to practice on actual people that are dead. When they are done with you, you can get cremated and then whatever you chose to do with it. I want mine dumped in the woods, so it would make sense to have them in a tree in the woods.

Sure, why not? If it helps nature.

I had planned on being cremated anyway, but I'd love for a willow or an oak tree to grow from my ashes.

It is a pretty cool idea, but I want my ashes spread out on the ocean. I love the ocean and from it springs ALL life!!!

I second all of your comments here.

My grandmother was cremated and the family could barely afford the cost. My aunt has her ashes in a big bag. That's what they gave her when she couldn't afford an urn. It's horrible, especially considering that the place my friend gets her dogs cremated at gives the ashes back to her in a nice, sealed, decoratively carved, stained, and finished wooden box. This is only $60 cremation and all. Why they couldn't offer something like that for grandmother makes me sick. I will be looking into these as gifts for my whole family. There are enough ashes to go around and they could all have a tree in their yard in memorial.

I'm pretty sure I would. I dont want stuck in the ground in a box not doing anyone any good. Atleast this cares about what is going on with the earth

I already want to end up in an urn when I die, so doing that AND becoming a tree at the same time? I say it's a win/win right there!
